Do you ever avoid TTC based on what the due date would be?

For example, is anyone avoiding TTC this month so the baby won't be born around Christmas?

I know several teachers who have aimed for, and attained, spring births so that they can be back at work in September.

Never. But we've been trying for a year and have now moved into fertility treatments. I would never avoid a month, I just want a month to work for us.

I would if I weren't having difficulty conceiving. I agree that a December birth isn't ideal. But I've been TTC for over a year now and so a less than ideal birthday isn't going to deter me from trying. I'm crossing my fingers!

If you having been trying long, I can see the appeal. But I have to say, I love love love my born around Christmas child. So glad I didn't skip that month!

No. Beggars can't be choosy.

My entire family has holiday bdays, so Christmas bdays seem not only normal, but preferred. I never skipped a month because we had such a difficult time getting pregnant, but I was always oddly relieved when I knew I wasn't pregnant with a Gemini baby. Sounds totally crazy, I know, and I'm not into astrology, but I had a Gemini boyfriend in my early twenties and read up on compatibility between geminis andcapricorns (me) and it always said it was a terrible match. I was oddly worried that if I had a Gemini baby we wouldn't get along. Kooky, I know.

Well, if you can afford to be that picky, go for it. Not for me though, I have longer than average cycles and every month counts.

Nah. Where the birthday falls is just not that big of a deal in the scheme of things. I'm not going to waste a chance just for that.

I did, with my second pregnancy. We were doing IUIs, too, and I just wanted to avoid a holiday baby. In retrospect it worked out because I was fortunate enough to get pregnant the following September, for a baby due this June, but my word of caution is that there can be other delays when doing ART and so while you might think you're just delaying by a month or two, you could get hit with a cyst of a cancelled cycle for some reason and then the delays pile up. That plus a couple failed cycles and you're 6 months down the road.

No way; pushing ahead by a month at this point means a birth (if one is fortunate) *next* year ... My goodness, where do the months (years!) go!

Totally agree.

After having an ectopic last summer (which would have been a March 2013 due date) I was really stressing about conceiving in September because that would give me a June due date and I am a bridesmaid in my brothers wedding in June (Babys dues date would have pretty much been the day he is getting married.) My brother and I are very close and I really want to be at his wedding. My husband thought I was nuts (we have been trying to conceive for close to 5 years and finally decided to do IVF). Luckily, nature works in mysterious ways and my beta didn't drop to below 10 before September, so our next try was in October - it worked and I am currently due exactly one month after he gets married (I am still in the wedding and I will be huge, but I am very excited just to be able to be there!)

Single Mom by choice--best piece of advice my BF gave me was to figure out what the cutoff date for school was and make sure the baby was delivered before then. When I asked why she told me I would avoid paying for another full year of day care if I timed it right. She's my BF for a reason.

2 of my 3 kids are May babies. When we were trying for #3 we were very sure not to get it on in August.
