| Anything going on the first week in April for High Schoolers? Originally was going out to Vegas, but this sequestration thing has me nervous about "frivolous spending". So, she is stuck here in the area. Ideas, suggestions? TIA! |

I'm taking my kids (4, 10, 13, 17) to Williamsburg. We don't do the historical stuff though. We're staying at Wyndham Kingsgate (have a discount code that is $135/night) in a 2bd condo.
I'm letting my oldest two (girls) bring a friend (they have mutual friends) so that I can let them loose to do more on their own. We'll do two days at Busch Gardens, one day at the nearby outlet mall and another just relaxing at Wyndham (they have an indoor pool, outdoor pool, hot tub, minature golf, movie room, game room, etc). I, too, wanted something low-key and low-cost because I'm trying not to overspend on vacations and I have two trips planned in the summer and a cruise in December. |
| College visits. Way more useful than a trip to Vegas. |
Most open houses are on Saturdays, so not really a good plan for spring break. |
|
We do "staycations" all the time (we don't have a lot of money for vacations). There is a lot to do within 1-2 hours from here.
There's Baltimore, Philadelphia, Virginia, West Virginia, etc. And there's also plenty to do in DC. |
Dope smoking, video game playing, and sexytime with the boyfriend. |
I bet you learn more about a school from visiting when they're in session, sitting in on a class, and taking a regular tour than from a Saturday open house. |
Not true, OP. We have done a lot of college tours during spring break week. Many public universities have programs for visitors the entire week before Easter, because they know that a lot of public school kids will be on break and available to view their schools. |
Woops, that should have said "Not true, PP". Sorry! |
Most schools do tours during the week. We are doing 8 during spring break. In fact Saturday is tough. The school we are visiting on Saturday only has a tour but no info session and the admissions office isn't open. Quite a few we are looking at don't do Saturday tours. We did find that BC, being a good catholic college, doesn't do tours from Thursday - Monday over Easter but plenty of others are open. PP which schools are you looking at that only do Saturday tours? |
My DD got in early admission to Rutgers & UNC-Charlotte. Both have their upcoming open houses on Saturday. We're also visiting Drexel (Sat) and UMD-CP (they do have weekday options). This is not to say that you can't do campus tours, so OP might still find it a valuable use of spring break time. I think I would rather visit the schools when students are actually there though. |
That is not true. We are attending open houses on a Monday at Lehigh and April 2 at the Univ of Chicago. You need to check the schools you want to visit. |
Al lot of college spring break's this year are earlier in March so most schools will be in session the last week in March and the first week of April. Just check the calendar's of the schools you want to visit. |
Yet to be on a college tour when they let you sit in on a class. |
| Cancun. No drinking age. Free sex for anyone who wants it. |
