I'm trying to come up with some new TV programs that I can DVR for my DDs to watch. I know some will get snarky about this, but it does not need to be educational. There, I said it! After a long school day, they like to come home and relax in front of the TV for awhile before delving into homework, activities, and their nightly reading. I have no problem with this. Mindless comedies are fine, as long as they are appropriate for kids. At this point, they just watch the Disney Channel shows, Full House and The Middle.
Any other suggestions? |

iCarly
Wizards of Waverly Place I Love Lucy Brady Bunch |
| Zoey 101 |
| Mortified and H20: Just Add Water are Australian shows that you should be able to get on netflix streaming. |

Fetch and WildKrats are good; America's Funnies Home Videos; They might really like Wipeout (makes me laugh outloud and I keep thinking my 8 yr old would like it)
My 8 yr old girl like Shake it Up and Kickin-it |
| My daugher loves H20 just add water. |
| Victorious |

What about stuff on animal planet or the Discovery channels?
My dd is 10 and my ds is 7. They love the crocodile hunter, dirty jobs, and the dog whisperer. They also love to watch old shows like Alf, Dinosaurs, Brady Bunch, etc. |

I've found the reviews helpful:
http://www.commonsensemedia.org/tv-reviews Also, you may want to preview things. We were over at a friends house who have an 8 year old. She was watching something on a video with gymnasts or cheer leaders, some knock off some popular movie. The dialogue was beyond catty. Shows don't need to be educational, nothing wrong with a little fluff, but honestly I was appalled. |

OP here. Thanks for the suggestions! I haven't heard of a few of these so we will check them out! I'm happy to have some new ideas.
On a related note, is anyone else extremely frustrated with the language on prime time TV these days? It would be nice if DH and I could turn on the TV for an hour or so to catch up on our *fluff* shows while the kids are playing. But there are VERY few shows we can have on while the kids are in the house/awake! After the kids go to sleep, we have to shut ourselves in the basement to watch something like The Office or Parks and Rec as if we are down there watching porn or something! About 95% of the show will be fine, and then suddenly a hugely inappropriate conversation will occur so we have to struggle to change the channel. In the morning, I like to have something like the Today Show on while we are getting ready, but they will go from an innocent cooking segment into a story about a mother of three killing her children in their sleep! I realize I'm painting us as a family of TV-obssessed couch potatoes. Honestly, we aren't. but we all enjoy ending our day with a couple of comedies, and starting the day with some family-appropriate current affairs updates. Is that asking so much? Sorry, just had to vent! |

I hear you- I've just resigned myself to not watching anything 'good' until the kids are older.....
Anyways, these are old DVDs that my daughter loves: Winx club Saddle Club (her absolute favorite) Time Warp Trio |
OMG Aren't U so glad you got that off your chest??!!!??? Seriously tho, my kids watch the iCarly type shows. They like Family Game Night on the Hub. More recently they've watched a lot of Downton Abbey. For reals. |
| My 10 yo watches Mythbusters and How It's Made. She also watches some NOVA shows that we watch online. |
| We downloaded Sabrina the Teenage Witch and that has been a hit. |
Oh come on, if you're going to watch PBS limit it to Downton Abbey. Otherwise you're just a snob. |
