3rd GRade COGAT scores

My DD is in 3rd grade and he got his COGAT scores yesterday.

verbal 97 percentile
Quantitative 98 percentile
non-verbal 83 percentile

Is there any cut off for 3rd grades or how does the commitee select them?
Do they look at any one score or look at composite?

What are the chances of DD getting into AAP?

Parents please share your experiences whose DD got selected in 3rd grade

Hi, I am also doing a parent referral for my DS in 3rd grade and he also took the COGAT this year, his composite is 134 what is yours?
I am also not sure if they work on a benchmark?

I parent referred in 3rd grade after being in pool, and not getting in for 2nd. My ds's CogAT scores ranged from 120-148, his composite was 136. (99%ile). These were his 2nd grade scores. I did not get further testing, and hoped he would have a better GBRS in 3rd.

I think they do look at individual scores, not the composite, since the determining factor for 2nd grade pool placement is having one single subtest (not composite) score at or over the benchmark.

So, I am not sure if there is a magic cutoff number for admittance on parent referral in 3rd grade, but in our case, our lowest subtest score was 120 (89%ile) and our highest was 148 (99%ile).

If the composite was the main consideration, I am not sure how my ds was not admitted with a 99%ile composite on the CogAt. I think if you are seriously considering a parent referral, I would strongly recommend you at least send a note to your child's teacher to ask if they feel that AAP is the right fit. This will give you an idea if the GBRS they will have to submit will support/back up high test scores, or will overcome test scores that did not meet the benchmark (assuming they are looking at a similar benchmark to the 2nd grade numbers).

Not for 2011-2012. This year they are only looking at CogAT composite scores as well as NNAT scores.

Composite score benchmark is for the 2nd grade pool, which obviously does not apply for 3rd grade. 3rd grade scores are for referrals.

Yes, first round of parent referral. That said, I think there is a new form of CogAt than my son took 2 years ago. His 148 on the nonverbal was a perfect score, and I have seen others talking about scores higher than that this year.

My child was in AAP pool but got rejected due low GBRS scores. We are planning to retest cogAT in 3 rd grade and try for best GBRS scores. So anybody had same experience and succeeded ?? Please share your experience. Is it really worth try ? I mean is there chance to get in to AAP Thanks

Have you considered doing the WISC and appealing this year?
