| I never hear of good SAHM neighborhoods in the District. It's always places like Rockville or Vienna. Is it because it's so expensive that when you get to AU Park or CCDC or Spring Valley both parents must work to be able to afford it? Or is there just a perception that when you have kids and you want to stay home you head out to the burbs? |
| There are SAHMs everywhere--what do you mean by a "good" SAHM neighborhood? |
What about Palisades? |
|
The best I've seen in NW is Glover Park. I don't live there myself but have a few friends who do.
The other good one that comes to mind is Columbia Hts. It would help if you speak Spanish here. I am a SAHM in CCDC and I feel very super alone during the day here. It's nanny city, 8 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. My unstudied guess is that, as you said, it generally takes 2 incomes to buy a $1,000,000 home now, plus the working mom neighbors I know well take great pride in their careers. ie, it's not just a job. SAHMs are slightly more common inside the boundaries for Blessed Sacrament in CCDC east of Conn. Ave. than they are outside those boundaries. I'll let you draw your own conclusions there. |
| We are in CCDC and I am a SAHM. I remember when the earthquake happened we ran out of the house to see what it was. No one. Not a soul! |
Not just alone, not just very alone (although how does one get more alone than alone?), but very super alone? Wow. |
| Um, how about Georgetown? |
| Um, no. |
LOL, this happens everywhere. We live in Centreville and when the earthquake happened, I grabbed the kids and ran outside. Milling around out in the street were people from two different cleaning services, a gutter guy and a lawnmowing team. No neighbors anywhere. |
| There are plenty of SAHM moms in North Cleveland Park/Van Ness -- lots of apartment buildings that don't require 2 incomes. Plus Forrest Hills playground is walking distance, and 3 libraries within a mile or so (Chevy Chase, Tenleytown, Cleveland Park). |
| There are quite a few on my block in AU Park. It's probably close to 50/50 on SAHM/WOHM ratio. |
| Half the people on my CCDC block are SAHMs, so I guess it depends on where you live. |
Is this block within the Blessed Sacrament attendance boundary
|
Yes, but isn't most of CCDC within the BS attendance boundary? I also know TONS of SAHM in CC not on my block. |
Actually, a lot of or most of the addresses on the other side of Connecticut, certainly as you head south, are in the parish boundary of St. Ann's. |
