| I have dark hair. The sun soaks into that nice dark hair and makes me HOT. I have a white Nike running cap - it's super lightweight, breathable, and keeps my head cooler by keeping the beating sun OFF. And it keeps the sun out of my eyes, too! I don't like wearing sunglasses while running - so the hat works great. |
| I wear Nike hats b/c they have the air flow thing going on. I can pull my hair into a ponytail but I have annoying baby hair strands that always flop in my face, despite holding them back with bobby pins. I also wear glasses (can't wear contacts anymore due to an eye condition) and my prescription sunglasses don't stay on while I run. So the hat keeps the hair out of my face and the sun out of my eyes. Is it cooler to run without the hat? Yes, but the hat is pretty light and it's more insufferable to run without it. |
And another ditto...exactly. |
Women want to look "sporty yet fashionable"...especially during exercising so hence the cute little ball pink ball cap. Complete with the waterproof mascara! Trendy - yes. Practical - hec no. Just wear a cloth headband (Nike) and sunglasses (with straps) if your workouts are that intense that you need to keep the sun and sweat out. |
| What is the big f$&@@ing deal about wearing a baseball hat (pink or otherwise) vs sunglasses, strap + headband? Does it imply that whomever is running is less serious about their workout, or did I miss the memo that in order to 'really' run, you have to NOT wear a skirt OR a baseball hat? And, so what if a little waterproof mascara is worn? My god, isn't the whole point of exercising to feel good about the health investment you are making in yourself? I don't want to have to lumber down the Mall in shlobby shorts and some dumbass headband and sportglasses. Nerdburger alert. |

Less so if it's black/dark color, but a white or light color hat helps reflect the sun, thus keeping the wearer a bit cooler. If it has air holes, it also allows for air flow which equals more cooling. The brim of the hat also shades the face and eyes especially.
and, if you wear one while competing in endurance races (long-distance triathlons, marathons, etc...), as I do, you can also use it to trap water or ice if you pour it on your head. |
| It's pretty useful to keep the sun off your scalp and face and hair. It also helps tame the giant frizzball that my hair can become on a warm, humid day. |
