I've kept every iPhone I've gotten for well over 2 years and it's been fine. I currently have the 7S, that I got almost 3 years ago. It's fine. I'm thinking of upgrading sometime this winter, but I'm not in a huge rush. It has not gone to shit, but I'd like a nicer camera. |
My previous mid-range android phone lasted 6 years. My DH's lasted 7. I had to replace mine because of a total system crash, and his was finally physically wrecked. I'm on year 2 for my current, he's on year 1. Each was under $200 to replace. You might want to look at the other options unless you absolutely need an iPhone for some reason. My DD has an iPhone because her school has them use devices and having an iPhone simplifies things. Hers last about 3 years before they're no longer effective (too little battery life, can no longer upgrade OS and can't get version of app, flaky behavior...), and of course they cost about 3x what our phones cost even for the basic model. My DH I used the same charging cables for our previous phones their entire life, as well as an extra in our cars and at work. My DD goes through iphone charging cables regularly. She's not destructive, apple just doesn't have the same focus on quality that other companies have. Their stuff is pretty but disposable. |
| I was one of Apple's most devoted zealots for years. I finally got fed up with them a few years back and have had a Google Pixel ever since. It came with a wall charger and a usb cable that I use in the car. Both are still 100% intact with no fraying. I don't take anything away from what Apple did in terms of getting technology to where it is today, but a lot of competitors have caught up. The same goes for computers. I loved my Mac for years, but the PC I built to replace it cost me a fifth of the money, and I've seen none of the unreliability that drove me to Apple over a decade ago. |
| Because you call them 'chords' instead of 'cords'. |
DH bought some non-Apple cords from amazon and half the time, they don’t charge. Unfortunately, we’re stuck giving more money to Apple if we want cords that actually charge. |
| I’m going to be the lone dissenter and say that if you’re going through them that fast, it’s you. I need to replace a cord maybe once every 3 years or so. On the other hand, I buy them in bulk for my teenager. When you unplug your phone, do you pull on the cord or the connector? |
My phone auto-corrected- I buy Anker brand cords and so far so good. |
Anker makes some amazing products. Their power bricks and charging cables work better than well-known companies. They also have really good customer service. The one time I had an issue with a $20 power supply, they refunded my money and sent me another one free of charge (and through overnight mail, no less). |
