Cordell and Cordell- has anyone delt with this law firm?

They definitely encourage men to fight. That is $$$ for them. But lots of men roll over and give up in divorce battles.

I don’t know if the law firm itself hates women, but many of their clients sure do and they host a forum that is a “safe space” for misogynists to give free legal advice to each other. It just reminds me of a bar in my college town where the owner swore she had nothing against black people, but her clientele was largely violent white supremacists.

Someone believing men often get the short end of the stick in divorce proceedings doesn't make them misogynistic, nor does someone being a bit angry and bitter while going through a divorce. Lots of women feel the exact same way.

It sounds like lots of women on this forum are simply upset that the firm is willing to fight hard for men in divorce proceedings, something plenty other firms do for women and for that matter men.

I used them long time ago when they were doing employment law. They were terrible. I ended up spending thousands of dollars for them to tell me that no one was answering them. I basically paid them for our phone conversations, by the minute, which did not result in anything.

If you haven’t read their forums over a long period of time, you have no idea what you are talking about. It’s more than a bit angry and bitter. There are posters on there who are on divorce number two or three who are promoting 1950s ideals of gender roles and arguing that divorced moms should lose custody for dating. Lots of toxic attitudes about women. No one ever seems to get banned.

I am the 7:52 poster.
I went to the website and saw the photos.
I was mistaken. This is a different firm.
About 18 years ago I dealt with a different Cordell ( husband and wife) couple.
Hopefully they are no longer practicing and scamming vulnerable people.

+1

I read their forums a few years back after they came up in a google search. It was a fascinating train wreck that
makes it look like DC posters are the epitome of sweetness and light. There are some seriously angry men on there who see their kids and any romantic partners as possessions. The general attitude was that those men wanted control over their children’s life not out of the best interests of the children, but to punish their exes who probably had enough of their abusive behavior.

And I’m not one to think mothers should automatically get custody and I generally frown on divorced parents exposing their kids to a series of temporary SOs.

If that translates to the lawyers? I don’t know...but res ipsa loquitur and/or Occum’s razor seems to apply.

Sure, there are men out there with retrograde ideas about divorce and gender roles. But there are many women with comparably outdated views who think that a man who cheats should lose custody and be left penniless. Even without infidelity, the man should be on the hook for alimony for life. The law has moved away from all of these extremes, whether favoring men or women.

I guess the firm is somewhat unique in that it provides a forum where men's views, some of them extreme, predominate. But, it is not like there aren't plenty of other forums where women's views, some of them extreme, predominate. See, e.g., DCUM.

It does not matter what they advertise. It may be good marketing and it may make women think that “ooh-they are to be feared.” But none of that matters if the attorneys aren’t very good. Look at the specific attorneys in the firm and not the website as a whole. The attorneys do not have a respected presence in No.Va.

People, use your heads. This is a marketing shtick, nothing more. Do the lawyers actually hate women? Maybe, maybe not. Are they successful in attracting clients based on their ads? It appears so. Are many of those clients very, very angry, and hate women? Yes. Are they to be feared? No. They don't seem like very good lawyers.

I don’t think they have to be good to attract their clients. They just make those men feel vindicated. Money in the pockets of lawyers that could be spent on kids’ needs. So much time spent in court that could be used for repairing relationships with your children. And what better way to excuse your incompetence than to argue that the system is rigged against your male clients.

I don’t know any women who actually fear the firm in court. I know a few, myself included, who saw ex husbands morph into full-blown MRAs after hiring their lawyers or using the Dads’ Divorce Forums. Within weeks, mine went from working with the mediator toward a solution good for all three of us (him, me, and DC), to scorched earth. In the end, $30k later, he got 1 additional overnight a month and a tiny reduction in CS.

Those forums are ridiculous, like some dystopian reverse mirror of this site.

My ex DH used them in our custody proceeding. It wasn’t amazing lawyering but the attorney held his own. Ex lost but it was more of his special circumstances than anything else.

They are horrible.

They just want your money.

Completely horrible!!
