I think it's the gin. |

Gosh as someone who is 50 now I am going to have to retire to my fainting couch, that they were so much younger than I realized.
Oh who am I kidding - I'm never going to be able to retire. Golden Girls really was such a wonderful show. Even if suddenly I feel ancient. |
|
Two things at play here:
50s seemed older back then. Hollywood standard of younger people playing older versus hiring someone age appropriate. |
| None of these women had jobs on the show. They were all retired living in Florida. No way they were in their 40’s |
Blanche, Rose, and Dorothy all worked. It was a constant storyline for them. |
Wrong. Blanche worked at the museum Rose worked at the counseling center Dorothy was a substitute teacher |
Yes that was joke because Blanche couldn’t take aging and not being attractive. My memory is that the actress looked much younger in real life but were dressed to look older particular Estelle Getty/Sophia. That was really a great show. |
If they are a little blurry & she’s wearing just a tall hat, it’s actually Abe Lincoln. I know, the resemblance is amazing. |
|
| Wait are you talking about the new SATC show? |
Bea and Betty were older people playing younger. Rue and Estelle were younger people playing older. |
And they were all sharing a house, just like recent college grads. |
Don't know why people are ignoring this correct post! It was obviously a joke that Blanche was in her 40s. She was at least mid 50s. And she had 2 kids, not 4 or 5. |
| There is a great subreddit that delves into the details of their ages and the inconsistencies. |
| What about the inconsistencies in the layout of their house? The hallway that leads to the bedrooms is right next to the kitchen which has a door to the garage exiting in the same direction of that hallway. |
