August vacation ideas

Buffalo and Niagara Falls could work. I want to go to the bay of Fundy and other parts of Eastern Canada but it might be more planning than you want. Agree with the pps that if your kids are old enough, giving them a budget and letting them plan would be great.

Seattle and then ferry to Victoria, adding a few days further out on Vancouver Island if you have time

Montreal and Quebec

Niagara Falls is exciting for about an hour.

I’m gonna throw two vacations out there that we loved, and yes you can plan a lot fir them but you don’t have to:

Fly into Bozeman, see Yellowstone, see Grand Tetons, stay in Jackson Wy 3 nights, drive back on the grand loop, fly out of Bozeman.

2nd trip: any resort in Costa Rica. Do day trips or 1 overnight trip to different activities, but only if you want to.

Westin reserva conchal, el Mangroove Guanacaste and many other resorts there are wonderful.

But Buffalo, Niagara on the lake, and surrounding areas have more to do. Hiking at devils hole, speedboat, zip lines, funicular, bike riding, maid of the mist, mini golf... it's not just standing there looking at a waterfall unless that's what you want it to be.

Seattle is awesome that time of the year. Just spend 2-3 days in the city - then rent a car and explore the Olympic Peninsula. Or as someone suggested Vancouver/Victoria Island are an option too. Though I think Olympic is cooler.

Or Montreal/Quebec City are both fun - easy drive.

We also drove up to Nova Scotia one year. Stopped in Maine both ways. Spend 2 days at Bay of Fundy, 3 days on Cape Breton (camping/hiking) and then 2 days in Halifax - very nice.

Final option - Oregon - fly into Portland. Do 2 nights in Hood River - great rafting there, 2 nights in Bend or thereabouts, 2 nights on coast and then back to Portland.

London and Paris (so long as post-olympics) - I know everyone goes nuts planning these two places but you don’t have to pre-plan a ton - there is much to be enjoying just by walking around and playing it by ear

True, I wouldn't go there in Aug cause of a hurricane season.

+1
You only need to pack and book shore excursions, we used Costco travel but can also book directly from cruise site. And Alaska is great for people love outdoor activities.

I don't enjoy them much in August because of the queues. Paris can get very hot too, and isn't great on aircon. There are much more relaxing and scenic places in those countries. Restricting yourself to London and Paris is like only going to LA and New York in the USA.

We enjoyed San Diego in August one summer. Stayed in Mission Beach. Just make sure where you stay has ac as many places there don’t. The water is actually warm enough to get in.

Re: Seattle & vicinity. August is already past the Lavender Festival (July 19-21, 2024), but depending on your dates in August, some lavender farms near Sequim might still be in bloom.
