Neighbor points security camera at our front door?

They have a ring doorbell camera as well that neighbors think they've used to record conversations in front of their building (a conversation between a delivery person and another neighbor that happened on their front walk). So I'm wondering if they might be recording us (or guests) talking on our porch? Am I being too paranoid?

Sone can record sound, some don’t. You have to turn the setting on. I think you are being paranoid. I usually only use mine to look at night and usually it’s an animal.

I’d plant a tree or two. Nothing else you can do.

If they are recording sound, it’s not going to pick up the sound from your house. Only right near.

Our doorbell can pick up conversations on our front steps, but nothing beyond 8-10 feet.

In a way it’s better protection for your house in case a burglar happens by…

Point one right back at him.

Gently, I think you’re being paranoid. But yes, they can pick up conversations and sound.

Like how close? 8-10 feet accurate?

Potentially, yes. The question is whether your risk of burglary is higher or lower than your risk of your hostile neighbors doing something crazy. Like getting you SWATted, revealing your schedule or travel online, etc.

Statistically, crime victims are much more likely to know their assailant than not.

I suspect the camera just isn’t working so someone moved the lens to the side

I’d look right at it and scratch my forehead with my middle finger every time I used the front door.

Why?

Put up a flag so the motion detection is constantly going off. People on Reddit say there are lights you can shine to foil the camera but I don't know anything about that - effectiveness, legality, etc.

This doesn't make sense because if a camera wasn't working, you still just keep it pointed at where a security risk might happen as the camera itself is a deterrent even if it doesn't work. You wouldn't point it away as someone who was trying to break in or rob you would likely notice this and view it as an opportunity.

Is it possible what you're seeing pointed toward your house is not a camera but a solar panel for their doorbell camera? The camera over my driveway has a solar panel that is about 15ft away from the camera, directly facing my neighbor's house as that's where the most direct light hits. From far away I can see someone thinking that other mounted thing is another camera.

And yes, they record sound.
