New up charge at Dry Bar

You shouldn't be paying for a blowout in that case.

Maybe instead of a set charge with an up charge, they should charge in 20-min increments.

Yeah, I would invoice for my time. I am expensive.

I did this at a doctors office once that kept me waiting.

How did that work out? Did they pay, or what was their response?

Regular Price is $59.
Extensions are an extra $20.
But, if you have hair that takes more than 45 minutes, the “convert” you to a 90 minute appointment and charge you $99.

Now, do you think they give you a rebate if you don’t take a full hour and a half? And how much do they deduct when the service goes on and on because they’re distracted complaining about their job and chattering on with each other?

Wow do you "assume" a lot! I have long straight blonde hair and fully expect to pay more if needed.

It's not natural and we all know it, sweetie.

Ugh. The "sweetie" poster is back. Go away.

Drybar is in trouble, so not surprised by this.

The one at Tysons is shuttered.

If your butt is in the seat for more than 45 minutes, you should pay more?

Not when some stylists can do it on time and others can’t. Not when some spend time chattering over you, dragging out the service. I don’t want to be there that long either.

This may be the saddest attempt at a snarky post I’ve ever seen. I really really feel bad for this poster.

Yeah, this is the "sweetie" poster --- they are constantly dropping nonsense like this, using the word "sweetie" to convey contempt. I think they might be to the left on bell curve, if you know what I mean.

Just another way that it’s more expensive for women with kinky hair to fit the mainstream beauty ideal of straight, sleep hair. It’s why I no longer bother and just live with my natural curls.

NP if your hair is obscenely long perhaps you should pay more. But the fact is that curly hair does take longer to straighten than straight hair of the same length. This charge does seem discriminatory.

Sounds to me it is based on time, not hair type. But I don't see everything through a racist lens.

+1. That PP you responded to is bonkers.

Just came across the upcharge today. I booked a regular appointment but they just called to say that because my hair takes 50 minutes and not 45 I have to book a 90 minute appointment. I have no problem rounding up to 60 minutes on a 50 minute service but not 90. It’s a shame because I am a regular DryBar customer.

Does anyone have a recommendation of a place in DC that I should check out instead?

This is an optional service. I have really bad stress and book longer massages and pay a premium for that time and service. A hair place isn't racist if they charge more time-consuming hair more money. If you don't like it, book a 45 minute appointment and tell them you'll just leave if its not done by then. And then leave with half-straightened hair.

Exactly! We subsidize everyone else.
