OP...yeah figured 99 schools was enough however the next group at 100 are Amherst, BYU, Mason, NJIT, Pomona, SDSU, UCF, Kansas, Kentucky, USD and Williams |
| Are these also based on social mobility like the main rankings or are they about the quality of the education? |
Just saying they dropped. WM went from 65 to 82. Think NYU was top 25 last year to 40. |
At some LACs it’s basically nonexistent, others have decent departments. The good thing about LAC Computer Science departments is that you don’t have to go in knowing you’re doing CS. It’s not competitive to get into the major. You just have to take some intro classes and declare a major. Whereas schools like Michigan, Maryland, and Georgia Tech, it’s very hard to get into CS beyond general admissions, especially if you’re a boy. |

Remember to look at how this list is put together though. I'm not a huge fan of how USNWR does them. They basically survey a bunch of old dudes affiliated with CS programs (your kid could probably email a bunch of respected profs and industry professionals and get a better ranking):
"Top academics and officials at computer science programs rated the overall quality of undergraduate programs with which they were familiar on a 1-5 scale. A school’s undergraduate computer science rank is solely determined by its average of scores received from these surveys." |

Op,
Could you look up where George Mason University (GMU) is on the list? The list is behind a paywall. |
how would you rate a CS program, then? People look at various rankings, and some on here use Poets & Quants, which is a ranking based on alumni survey. |
and UMD. LOL |

+1 Girls applying to LACs as CS majors are a sure admittance. |

Wow! Yale CS ranked higher than Maryland, Hopkins, and Penn. Is this legit?
Everything I read here about Yale academics usually points out how they are not good in tech and are much more focused on humanities. |
| I went to Yale and my college classmate’s kid recently graduated from Yale in CS and said it’s not a strong program. Some classes are basically copied curriculum from better known schools (and says so in the course description). Also a fraction of the number of courses compared to a top school like Stanford. Kid does not recommend Yale for CS. |
Yep. Was always my impression too. |
What was the employment or grad school outcome for your classmate's kid? I wonder who's hiring graduates from that program. |
Thanks |
