| I can confirm Revlon One-Step did not work with adapter or converter in Europe and I wished I had left it at home! |
I had the same experience. I now straighten before I depart, which lasts me a couple of days. The rest of the trip I just deal with the fluff I get from a standard dryer. |
| Fried an electric shaver overseas. It wasn’t dual voltage. I forgot where I was and plugged it into my plug adapter and it fired up for a second then died. You definitely need a converter and not a plug adapter. That said, even the converters seemed to have mixed results. Probably the safest is to just buy a 220 dryer and save it as part of your overseas kit. |

OP here, what about this one? It says dual voltage and I assume I can trust the description. We are mostly not staying in hotels but in self catering cabins (and not sure if I'll have a dryer)

If it’s dual voltage you should be fine. You will only need an adapter and not a converter. |
|
I brought mine to Italy - you need a voltage converter.
It will not work as strong as in the US. |

Information on what to buy to use dryers in Europe |
Ditto on this. I just bought one in SA super easy. |
This is pp — I want to clarify that I used an adapter and a converter both times. |
| My experience traveling overseas is that I can use my home hair iron (becuase it had a temperature knob so I turn down the temperature if it is overheating), but that blow dryers blow out. I generally rely on hotels having hair dryers. |
| I feel your pain, OP. I have dried my hair with my Revlon round drying brush basically every.single.day. since I bought it in 2020. It is the best thing ever. The few times I've thought that I'll just run it through the regular dryer, I quickly remember why I don't use that anymore. Comparably, it looks terrible. We are headed to Greece in September and I have not even started troubleshooting this first world problem yet. Will be following this thread. |
| I am in the same boat in terms of total reliance on the Revlon dryer to deal with my curly, frizzy hair. I've also had the experience of burning out US blowdryers in Europe despite using converter, dual voltage, etc. About a month before our trip to France this summer, I ordered the Revlon dryer from Amazon's French site, so that I would have it here before the trip. Worked perfectly, shipped quickly, and I didn't have to stress about finding a French version in the smaller towns of the Loire Valley where we were staying for first part of trip (in Paris -- easier to find at a Darty store). Is there an Amazon site for South Africa or country with same plugs/voltage set up? Sending best wishes from my mushroom hair to yours!! |
PP here, can you post it on the facebook marketplace or somewhere and sell it so I can buy it second hand?!

|
How do you order from amazons french site?
|
| A converter weights about 30 pounds. |
