Will Solar Panels in Front Yard Reduce Home Value?

Anonymous
I am considering buying ground-mounted solar panels, and the best place to put them would be off to the side in my front yard. My house is in a rural area where people have large yards (10+ Acres) with private equestrian facilities. I don't care about the solar panels in my front yard, but I am worried this might create problems if I need to sell my house. People purchase homes here partly because of the picturesque rural scenery and I don't want to spend money on solar panels if it will make my home less desirable to potential buyers.

Nobody wants to look at those hideous things.

Solar panels would be a plus for me if they were kind of hidden on the back roof. In the front yard, that would definitely decrease your value.

It would not deter me as a buyer but yes, it will reduce curb appeal. Can you plant something that hides them from the street without shading them?

I suppose you could get rid of them when it came time to sell, or offer to the buyer that you will remove them before closing. Take some nice photos of the house before the panels go in, in case you want them for listing.

Ask an agent in your neighborhood but
I think it’s a positive you have big yard and the utility cost savings.

Yes. On the roof, fine. As part.of the view, not great.

Yes, will decrease your value for most buyers. Will increase your value for a smaller subset.

Thems the facts, so depends on how soon/how quickly you would like to sell.
