Houses on I95 between American Legion Bridge and Tysons

Anonymous
With 95 getting wider on Virginia side of American Legion Bridge some of these houses the highway is now literally in their backyard. Are they compensated in anyway? It had to be ruining their value.

BTW next time you cross American Legion Bridge into Virginia the very first house on right at end of Bridge has a door on highway side like 40 feet in air that looks like a straight drop onto the highway There is no balcony or deck. It looks like when Road got moved closer the deck got removed. That’s scary. You literally could just fall on to highway.

If they widen 270 this will happen in my neighborhood too.

It’s 495. 95 is in PG county.

Short answer as a native Fxco’er: I don’t think so. It’s been part of the master plan and so there are public meetings and notifications. You can’t get compensated for what - noise? They’ll construct and install noise barriers and advise owners to plant trees on their side.

I located one. You can see all the trees removed between it and highway in satellite

The whole area near Cooper Middle School has become one hot mess.

You don’t think those homeowners knew 495 would be widened eventually?

This is like the people who buy a house near an airport and then get mad about plane noise.

Well it did not happen on Maryland side yet. 95/495 is massive from main to Florida and houses all along. But this is dramatic. They even removed all trees between homes and highest. And this is not 5-10 feet this is like 100 feet closer on spots

My friend lives in that area. They will be putting up new sound barrier walls, better than before. Right now it's quite a mess though to get to their house -- access roads are all torn up.

That house has never had a deck and has always had a door to nowhere.

Can someone drop a pin for this house? Now I want to see it

OP you only care because these are rich people. Entire areas of 495 and 95 and 395 and 66 have been widened. This is a regular occurrence

What about that house that is in Great Falls off of the exit ramp when you go from 495 outer loop onto the GW Parkway (so immediately south of the bridge)? I think it's blue. Every time I am driving that exit ramp I think "what a nightmare to live in that house. Does anyone even live there?" It seems like their driveway should connect to the exit ramp, it's crazy.

I think this is it:

It likely doesn't have anything to do with the construction. Most likely there was a deck attached to the house and it rotted away. Previous Street View photos also show no deck. You can only really see the door-to-nowhere when its winter time and the foliage has fallen from the trees.
