Good girls leggings

Anonymous
I feel like my girls leggings are constantly getting holes, they are both just hard on clothes, and although I often buy some of the cheaper brands, this has also happened across some of the pricier brands. So I am here to ask for suggestions, I am ok with buying some more expensive staples now that they are not growing out of things every 6 months.
I also have issues with staining, but that is a post for another day.

Suggestions welcome!

Same!! I’ve had better luck with the Athleta Girl leggings, especially the fleece-lined ones for winter. The regular leggings at Athleta Girl are also a bit thicker than most other brands.

I just got my DD a pair from Gap Kids and those seem a bit thicker than I remember. She’s only had them a week so we’ll see…

But I’ve given up on Tea, Target, and Old Navy.

+1. Active little girls with bony knees will wear through anything.

That being said, the thicker cozy (but not fleece) leggings and athletic material styles have been good for my slightly older girls, e.g., J. Crew cozy leggings, Primary French terry leggings, Hanna Andersson, Old Navy Active, Target All in Motion (not Cat & Jack)

Yes we went through this. I did find that Lands End has some leggings with reinforced knees that worked well. You could still get holes in them, but it wasn't quite as quick.

I also did buy iron on patches at one point and did that to get use from March-May because I was SO over buying pants when I knew they wouldn't fit the next year. That had mixed results. One kid didn't mind them, one kid would pick the patch off the next day at school (that one just went to school with holes).

But my 2nd grade this was much less of an issue. My DD plays hard. I use oxyclean in every load!!

At the younger ages, everything got holes in the knees.

My kid has some Athleta ones now and while I don't know that they wear any better, they are super soft.

That's good to know, I have one still in toddler, but other has graduated to girls, so I'll likely just try out some better brands on her and see how it goes

Are you talking about athletic leggings or under-dress/skirt leggings?

For athletic leggings, my kids wore Under Armour when they were younger. I found that they held up really well and were very easy to clean. Shop them on Amazon, Zappos, UA outlets, Kohls, and online on sale. No reason to pay full price - you can always find UA on sale somewhere.

For under-dress/skirts leggings (which my kids have always had to wear to school because of a dress code) I went with Hanna Andersson for the ones that lasted. Tea Collection and Boden were cute but did not hold up as well. Same with Cat&Jack and Old Navy (cheaper options but seemed to fall apart really quickly).

For stains, try the Carbona Stain Devils sets. They have about 8 or so specific formulas for specific stains. The grass, dirt, and makeup one is spectacular at getting grass stains out, way more so than Oxi Clean (which I otherwise love and use), Shout, etc.

I also started washing the leggings first and then stain treating as needed rather than stain treating first because I was often surprised how much would come out in the wash with detergent and Oxi Clean but no actual pre-treatment.

Funny enough, the only leggings that my girls have put holes in are from Primary and Hanna, which are the two that I always thought had the nicest fabric.

The ones from Target (they have some that have a reinforced knee), H&M, and Old Navy have all held up well.

I’m on girl 2 for all of these, by the way, and the Primary ones have holes after one girl (I patched them with cute patches when I passed them on to my younger daughter) and the Hanna ones only just got holes in the knee with daughter 2.

+1

DD used to wear holes through her leggings since, of course, she was crawling around more as a preschool/young elementary-aged kid. I stopped buying the cheap ones (Old Navy, Target), and started getting ones from Hanna Andersson, which lasted much longer. She would outgrow them before holes in the knees had a chance to appear. Now that she’s almost 9, I’m back to the cheaper ones!
