| My daughter needs to do a community service project. She had a great idea she was pursuing that also relates to her interest in reading, but the organization she tried to partner with does not offer locations in DC, nor are the hours workable (not open on weekends). If anyone is aware of literacy-oriented organizations in DC that may be more flexible, please let me know! |
| I know a kid who put together a program where anyone who came to the food pantry at her church with a kid below school age took home a book. They collected gently used picture books, and also held bake sales to raise money to buy books. |
| eyeroll. if it's kid-led why isn't she asking people for ideas? why are you doing it? |
This. Not a good look, OP. |

Horton's Kids?

The kid is 12. They have limited life experience and knowledge of area nonprofits. The parent is helping to give some ideas about partnerships the child could pursue. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this and does not mean it's not "child led". I say this as both a middle school teacher and Girl Scout leader. |
| What is the benefit of “child-led”? At 12 they shouldn’t be leading service projects they should be learning from experienced community organizations if they actually want to make a difference in the world. |

Carpe Librum says they take volunteers of all ages https://turningthepage.org/get-involved/volunteer/
Playtime Project just featured a kid on their facebook page whose bar mitzvah project was collecting books and housewarming items for families leaving homeless shelters. Maybe they could use some more. |
| Join the friends group at your local library https://www.dclibrary.org/get-involved/friends-library --they often do book sales and other events. |
It absolutely means it is not child led. |

Food for others has a program to give kids books.
https://foodforothers.org/books-are-food-for-your-brain/ They often need volunteers to collect and sort books. |
| Have her talk to your local librarian to ask for ideas! There are a lot of options there. |
| See if an elementary school teacher needs help copying, laminating, and cutting out materials. |
| Or contact an elementary school and see if they want to do a book swap |
It sounds like the child has the ideas and would do the legwork but needs help finding an organization to partner with |
