| Is it true that it’s possible the selective high schools (SWW/Banneker) might not put results out until AFTER March 29? Or is the 29th a true certainty? |
| It all comes out in the lottery. |
| Historically those have come out when the elementary school ones come out. 29th is a pretty true certainty. Honestly the night before. |
It all has to happen together because it’s all interconnected. For example: a rising 9th grader could apply 1-Walls, 2-Latin, 3-Banneker. Latin is a lottery school with sibling-offered preference, and maybe the kid has a rising 5th grade sibling who applied 1-Mann, 2-Latin. So the results for Banneker (an application high school) could wind up depending on the results for Mann (an elementary school). |
| Banneker's results won't depend on that. Banneker already submitted their list, period. However, yes, there are lots of connections and what ifs which is why there is now a centralized system with the same release date for all. |
Banneker's results absolutely might depend on another schools... Their *rankings* are in, but their *results* are interdependent. |
+1 In the scenario listed above if the sibling gets into Latin and pulls their HS sibling into Latin, that kid will never find out if they got into Banneker because they ranked Latin higher. So Banneker goes to the next kid on the list and their result is different. |
Your kid's results depend on that, but Banneker made their selections. |
I don't know why you feel the need to repeat that. Is it some sort of achievement to have made selections? |
OP’s question wasn’t “when will selective high schools make their selections.” It was “when will selective high school results be announced.” The way the DC system works, selections that do not result in matches or waitlist positions are never announced. And matches are interdependent, and therefore must all be determined and announced together. |
Is it an achievement to say "my kid really wants to go to Latin"? I wasn't the same at the original poster. |
Is it true that Banneker notifies regardless? At our family interview, they told us that if our child was admitted, they would *also* let us know. Meaning, if we put it lower than first choice, we would still be made aware. |
| we got matched to Banneker as our second choice, and I believe they sent a welcome letter/email and began the enrollment process quickly. Our third choice (Duke) called us post-lottery to let us know they still wanted my student and that a spot was available for them if we chose not to enroll in Banneker. So, you might hear something like that from Banneker too, I suppose? |
That's weird, because that's definitely not how the lottery is supposed to work. When you are matched, the schools ranked below the match are supposed to be removed from your options. |
they weren't seen as an "option" in myschooldc; but, obvious that we were on their "admitted" list and I am guessing that the program we applied to was under-matched. |
