| I think 9 x 12 is too small? |

Try pulling your chairs away from the table, as though the person seated was going to stand up. Then allow for some border. It may depend on other furniture, like a hutch or buffet, or relate to the room size.
My mahogany table is 36" wide. My armchair requires at least 24" to be capable of standing from it. The rig should be symmetrical under the table. Your table is roughly 4x9. So if a rectangle, you would need 8 x 13. I would say a 9x12 rug is too small for your table because your table is almost 9 feet long. Your chairs, even if dainty, will probably scoot off the edge of the rug when people stand up. That is bad for the edge of the rug (if fringed). You may need something more like a 10×13. Do you have size options? Map this out on a piece of printable graph paper with little cut out rectangles (1 foot per square). Also some fancy rug stores will let you test rugs in your home and return. Plus there are stores that have normal return policies on cheaper rugs. Oriental rugs that used to be quite valuable are now quite cheap. Rugs that were new in the 1950s-1980s. See if you can find it in your heart to rehome one of these. |

I like Emily Henderson's "Rules" posts for guidance on stuff like this. On this topic -
RULE: Allow at least 36″ from the edge of your table to the edge of the rug. The average dining table will need a rug that’s at least 8′ wide. This let’s gives you room to pull out your chairs without falling off the rug. https://stylebyemilyhenderson.com/blog/dining-room-rules#:~:text=RULE%3A%20Allow%20at%20least%2036,without%20falling%20off%20the%20rug. |
PP. So I just looked at Pottery Barn's size filter. Beyond 9x12, they show 10x14 and 12x18 as larger size filter choices. So according to Emily's rule, OP needs a 10x14.5-ish rug. |

10' x 14' rug
Allow about 3 ft from the table all the way around for chairs. |
| Op-thank you! |
