| According to UVA, Echols offers came out last week for ED/EA round. Did anyone receive an offer? If so, can you share stats? Trying to figure out if my kid has a chance in RD round. |
| Ha ha your kid has to get in in the first place and it’s almost impossible RD. |
| My kid got it. 1540 SAT, top 10% of class gpa (4.3). Good extracurriculars, great teacher recs. |
| It’s a crapshoot honestly. |
Everything about this process is |
| I would agree that the selection criteria are opaque. |
|
What is Echols? Merit Aid?
|
| I am interested in Rodman Scholar profiles. Dean J’s blog entry indicates that standardized tests are not heavily considered in this selection. But she also de-emphasized SATs in her lives. Not really sure in the end. |
| My kid is at an Ivy now but did not get picked for Rodman Scholars. She had all the stats/gpa/extracurriculars so not sure what the criteria is or whether it is really used as an incentive to get students to come to UVA. |
| It's a black box. |
| Essays are very important, with gpa, scores, ec’s needed to get in the pool to be considered. |
| My kid is at HYPSM and got into UVA (in-state) arts and sciences but no merit scholarship consideration at UVA (only need-based FA). |
Echols isn’t a “scholarship”. No money attached to it. |
I was wondering about that. I got Echols back in the dark ages (early 90s) and it came with zero dollars. Wound up elsewhere, and wondered if UVA ever attached money to it. |
| DD doesn’t see anything on her portal so I guess she wasn’t selected. She is one of the top 5 students at her FCPS school with 1540 SAT, and over 4.5 GPA. I really don’t understand the college application process, it just feels so random much of time, and maybe that’s clarity in and of itself. |
