| Is buying fake purses in Chinatown still a thing? It's been years that I did this with my mom (some rando on the street approached us saying designer names, led us to a back room full of cheap/fake purses which we bought w/cash). Looking back on it, it was a recipe for kidnapping/murder which maybe is what added to the thrill? |
| As someone who lives in nyc it is still around. My sisters who were visiting and I did that thing where you go and meet the person in secret to buy the bag |

Ah Canal Street!! I haven't done it in 15 years lol. Maybe websites like Fashionphile and RealReal have replaced some of that?
I also did it Shanghai, I did it with a friend who was a local.... that was insane! |
| They’re also all over the place in soho on Broadway and by Times square. But yes to canal street. |

1999-kate spade
thx for the memories |
Lol |
| Yes, it’s a thing still/again. |
you were that foolish? |
| Yes all over Canal Street for a couple blocks, plus back rooms, all afternoon. They also appear to be in the weed business . There are some out in Times Square after the theater crowd disperses but far fewer. |
| I cannot imagine going into a back room with criminals. Very foolish. |
| Omg- you unlocked a memory I had forgotten about! 2005...my first time in NYC, 18 years old- had the BEST time shopping for knockoff Gucci and Prada purses in Chinatown, lol! Mostly we just shopped through the vendors on the street but did go into one basement to buy. Good times! |
I bet you can't name even 1 person who's been robbed buying fake purses in a back room in New York. These people are NOT trying to rob you, that would be bad for business, DUH. |
+1 I've done it a few times and lived to talk about it. They just want your money. |
| I've done it and will do it again! |
| I remember the label on my fake kate spade kept falling off and I glued it back on with rubber cement. |
