Duke Ellington just banned water bottles in school, citing DCPS policy. In other words, students cannot bring their own water bottle with water in it. I asume it's because some students were sneaking alcohol or some other illegal substance in their water bottles. Is this the rule at other DCPS high schools or is DESA the only one enforcing it?
It's a big concern -- my kid gets super dehydrated because the day is long. I hate to think what it will be like when the weather gets warm. They can purchase a plastic water bottle from a machine but it is both expensive ($2) and environmentally irresponsible. Water fountains are filthy inside the school because kids dump food and garbage in them. |
| You posted this same thing a week or so ago. Sorry your kid like generations before them will have to use the water fountain. |
| Actually it wasn't me but whatever. |

How is it possible that a teenager gets “super dehydrated” going to classes all day? Seems a bit dramatic. If it’s truly an issue, buy the water at school. This too shall pass. |

No water bottles is just plain stupid. If they cannot handle the drunk kids why be so desperate and punish the whole darn school. Kids go to sports before and after school and they need tit drink at school.
Are they allowed to bring in empty bottles? |
| They can bring empty bottles and refill at school. |
In that case, OP, you should lobby the school to ensure the water fountains are in proper working order and not full of trash. My kids' DCPS elementary (which is not new or nice and is Title 1 and on the east side of the city) has those refilling stations for water bottles in addition to water fountains, and my understanding from my kids is that they work better an don't tend to get messy or gross like the fountains sometimes do (also more sanitary because kids aren't putting their mouths on them). You should petition the administration to make sure kids have access to those. Problem solved. |
