Is your teen going on a beach week?

DD wants to spend 4 or 5 nights in Rehoboth with 5 other girls after graduation- girls all have great reputations and have given each other short rides before but I'm worried about the 3 hour ride there+back and also of course if my daughter will get sucked into peer pressure and try something dangerous... WWYD?

Is she 18? Is she going off to college in the Fall?

I wouldn’t be signing my name on a rental but yes, I would let her go. There will be the almighty coddlers that say no, but I went and have core memories to this day. Yes we drank. We went under 21 clubs (Wildwood NJ) and kissed a lot of boys (no sex except for those that had long term boyfriends.) We went to the beach all day hungover and got tan and laughed and had a great time. Each one of us took one night off to be the mom of the group. It worked.

Kids are so over worked and stressed. Let them have fun

^ Thanks for your reply. She won't be 18 until August but most of her friends will be, so they won't have any issues with renting for themselves. Yes she's going off to college

DS is not going by his own choice. I asked him if he wanted to go, but he said no. He's a non-drinker and doesn't want to get trapped in a house with everyone drunk nonstop. I feel bad there is no sober option.

I would say no. High school teacher here. You would not believe the stories I’ve heard about beach week. Drunken sex, drugs, driving while impaired. No way. She can go when she is 18 and when it isn’t the week that everyone else goes and there is such drama about it. Let them go in August. Not the week after graduation.

On what planet are they getting rentals at the beach?

1. They don’t drive there because they should not have a car there . One Karen’s drops off one brings back
2. Trust your kid they are leaving for college if they can not do a few days at the beach they are not ready for college
3. Discuss sex birth control and drinking from cups they did not poor themselves. If you think boys aren’t coming over you live in la la land .
4. Do not provide the alcohol . If they want it it’s up to them to get it don't make it easy they are still underage.
5. They get arrested we are not coming to bail them out .
6. Citations they lose the right to go away to college an attend community college . My kids knew I was not joking about 5 and 6.
7. If they get there and realize the situation is not for them they call we luck up no ? Asked.

I had six kids do this.

Do I think beach week is required hell no. Nor is it a requirement as a parent you pay for them to go.
I was a very strict parent however I fully believe after age 18 personal responsibility comes into play. Hence we let them go.

I know a group of boys who went to amusement parks a few years ago- also non partiers. They had a blast.

It’s hard.

One of mine had a group of friends who did not drink. They went to Dewey our house and had a great time biking beach football etc.

My friends and I went and only drank one night out of four. There are plenty of options if you find a group that wants to go and not drink.

Teens drinking and having sex?!?! The horror

Need flash. They are doing that anyway. Beach or no beach week.

And I don’t know many kids that use cars or bring them, esp OCMD. They have the trolley and Ubers.

Should’ve redshirted. Listen up parents of preschoolers with summer birthdays.

Not really. We are doing a girls trip - two moms and two daughters. They aren’t really the party types.
