Pretty fine, some natural curls and waves, and gets weighed down easily.
I’d prefer to shop at Target or CVS vs buy a highway end brand. Any recommendations? |
| If you don’t want high end, try Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle shampoo and conditioner— and see what you think. I’ve tried a huge range of products over the years, and I’m pretty happy with these — alternating with a (pricier) deep conditioner. |

| I hear you on not wanting to buy high end. I also have dry wavy hair. Went for a haircut the other day, asked stylist to recommend products. Bought four for items that she suggested without asking price. Days later checked my balance and paid about $180. Yikes. Fingers crossed that it's worth the money. |

For wavy hair to not become frizzy during warmer months, it is all about product. Deva or Curly World are the way to go.
I use Deva*, No-Poo, One Condition, and Original Gel. Only way not to get frizzy. Cost runs about $48 for a 32 Oz bottle of each, whoch lasts me about 3 months (I have long hair, hits my waist when wet). *spare me "but the lawsuit, women lost their hair" which happened (surprise - NOT) when Curly World was released - way to stick it to your former company that YOU choose to sell. I am a woman using Deva products for 3 decades and have long, thick hair with no issues |
NP, I love Tea Tree Tingle conditioner. I use the shampoo only once in a while because it feels like a clarifying shampoo and I’m concerned about using it too often and stripping my hair of natural oils [my hair is not chemically treated]. I think Trader Joe’s also sells other brands, like something with “Spa” in it. I’m older and my hair is now dry. It now has wave but I don’t consider myself to have wavy hair because it was always straight when I was younger. I was curly girl-curious for awhile but decided I did not want to put all that product in my hair. Also, it would take a lot of effort (and product) to really bring out the wave and I just feel messy-looking with my hair wavy (maybe that is a frizz issue). After years of having straight hair, the desire to brush is strong in me. For shampoo, I use bar shampoo from Chagrin Valley. Back in by curly-curious days, I looked for shampoos with no ‘cones and no sulfates or something and ended up at the Chagrin Valley website. I’ve been pretty happy with their stuff - lots of options, I tend to use the henna bar [so maybe that means my hair technically is chemically treated because it definitely has an effect on the color] but there are some that are much more moisturizing bars available. |

Trader Joe's new lemongrass conditioner has been good for my hair.
Also, don't wash your hair more than every 3 days in the winter. Every other day in the summer. |
Thanks, I’ll try this one! I tried the tea tree conditioner others mentioned and my hair LOVED it. Same with their hair mask (in the white and green tube). But both made my back develop horrid breakouts. Maybe I’ll have better luck with the lemongrass. |

I have fine wavy hair and really like the Treluxe Untie the Knot conditioner, sold at Whole Foods. It's technically a leave in conditioner, but many wavies use it as a rinse out conditioner (including me).
I use a few different shampoos depending on how dirty my hair feels. My normal shampoo is Kristin Ess in the peach bottle from Target, but I'll use a clarifying shampoo if my hair is gunky or a no sulfate shampoo if my hair feels dry. |
| I am also a devotee of Chagrin Valley’s shampoo bars. I have wavy hair and now all I use is the shampoo bar, the apple cider vinegar rinse and a few drops of argan oil on my damp hair afterwards. No frizz and my hair dries in beautiful waves. The first time I tried their shampoo bars I ended up with a hideous, waxy rats nest of hair and was turned off for several years. I later read some blog saying that shampoo bars only worked well with soft water and were a disaster with hard water. I’ve been using distilled water to wash my hair now and the results are great. |
| L’Oreal EverPure - I typically use the volumizing shampoo with the moisturizing conditioner. My hair is wavy, and dry everywhere except my roots. |
Oh that’s interesting. I’ll see if my Whole Foods has it. I used to use kinky curly knot today in a similar way, but stopped liking it over time. This one looks promising. Thanks! |
| Try Native, it's available at Target and cleans while leaving hair soft. DS has dry curls too but they don't look dry after using Native conditioner and most of the scents are good. |
Do you ever use different products for your roots? |
