Upcoming disney movies

This list is kinda sad. I have to give Disney and F for creativity:

Agreed. There looks to only be one completely original story there.

Overall, Disney has relied heavily on their existing IP for content over the last few years. Do we need another Toy Story? Or another Frozen?

I wanted to say the OP was being overly negative but after looking at the article dang..there really is a lack of creativity at Disney right now.

They have really lost their way. Looking at their historical releases, their last creative renaissance ended sometime around 2018. I wonder who quit or was fired because the decline is so drastic.

Oh god, that is so pathetic and sad. I opened this thread with the assumption (like a PP said) that people were being pessimists, but honestly this line up is an empty, profit-driven mess.

No creativity left in them if this is what they've got planned. I guess they've done nothing really good since...Frozen?

Are they really so desperately grasping for straws that they need a Lion King prequel now?

Dude. Literally open Aesop's Fables, pick a story, and hire some animators. I can write the songs. What is wrong with these people?

Yet ANOTHER Snow White 😒😒😒

I think John Lasseter was fired in 2017/2018 and he was then head of Disney Animation (having been brought over from Pixar). I get why he was fired, but there does seem to have been decline since his departure.

That being said, I do wonder if part of the reason for all the sequels is that Disney, like many other media companies, is trying to cut costs while still maintaining top-line revenue. Making sequels is an easy way to ensure continued revenue in the short-term, even though it may come back to haunt you in the long-term.

Yeah probably.

Disappointing not much new or original. Though I did love Inside Out and Zootipia stop an curious how those stories would continue. Loved Toy Story as well, but unsure if we really need another.

Oh my - this does not bode well for Disney. This is a list of future flops for sure.

Animated movies are in the works for years before they come out and there have been multiple completely original films in the last three years that obviously were in development when COVID hit (Luca, Turning Red, Onward, Strange World and this year's Elemental and Wish).

The reality is that between COVID, the arrival of streaming as a major industry upsetter, the writer's strike of the last year and yes, some creative upheaval at Disney, many studios are trying to find their footing.

It is not at all surprising that in a time of instability, Disney is going to have a couple years of tried and true options here.

Personally I can't stand the live action remakes and think they are lame cash cows so I'm not fully disagreeing or anything, but I think it is unfair to say Inside Out 2 (a movie that has been in the works for ages and comes off the back of the completely original Inside Out, which was very well set up for a natural sequel) is the same as Toy Story 5 (which is yes, just a way to make a hit).

I think Cruella 2, IO 2, the Tower of Terror movie, potentially the second Zootopia all have a lot of promise. And of course Elio is fully original.

But you know what I have two little girls who are going to absolutely love Frozen 3 and not every movie has to be some big event, I don't hate that they are making more of what kids love.

100%. He was a huge creative loss for Disney and Pixar. Not excusing his behavior but he was a creative genius.

That's way more live-action remakes than I anticipated. Way, way more.

Elio and Inside Out 2 (Anxiety!) look cute, but since I have a five year old I'll probably see 90% of these.

Will you and your kid watch Zootopia 2? What's up with all the sequels and more of these movies?!
