Never has this happened before. Usually my 9 yr old child gets over it in a couple of weeks max. Nurse said so long as there is no fever or breathing issues just keep hydrated. I’ve tried honey and a couple of other natural things but nothing has helped.
It Started with a cold then dry then productive and now hacking coughing and lots of phlegm via the nose. I am clueless what to do next. Any suggestions? |
| Forget the natural! Bring on the hard drugs - start with an allergy pill like Claritin. That often helps me. Even if I have a cold, it stops the phlegm cycle. |

Honey?
Oh honey... |
Medication from the doctor? |
You mean poisonous chemicals? In my body? No way. Are there any yoga poses that help? Or unregulated essential oils that can I can breath into my lungs? What colors of food should I be focused on eating inbetween my intermittent fasting periods? |

| See a real doctor |
Of course, but what kind of doctor? A Doctor of Acupuncture? Psychology? A Doctor of Education? Or just an experienced witch doctor? There are so many options! |
| I get all my medical advice from Dr. Oz. Sometimes Dr. Phil if it's mental health. |
Ask doctor if she can take Mucinex. We all had this, and it lasted 6-8 weeks for the adults, and mucinex helped - but not sure if kids can take it. Our kids were less affected, it was 4-5 weeks but they were not as uncomfortable as you're describing. If she can't take it, ask doctor what is equivalent. But you may just have to ride it out. Suggestions: steamy showers or baths, let her sit in there with the fan off for 10 mins so the steam can open stuff up. Humidifier for her room. Cough drops. Hot tea, especially with ginger (Twinings lemon/ginger works well for me when I am sick) and yes, mix in the honey. And, time. |

This lingering cough is going around. I had it for weeks as gave several friends/coworkers. My daughter has it now. It sucks.
Mucinex if they’re old enough. Dimetap or equivalent if they’re not. |
| If there is phlegm after a month, I would say bacterial infection is likely, especially if it is yellow/green. A few years ago my toddler just couldn’t kick this one cold. I tend to go the natural route for colds and am wary of excessive antibiotic use. But after 3 weeks he still had tons of yellow mucus, and antibiotics cleared it up in only a day. Some people’s sinuses have a harder time clearing that gunk out. |

OP. Wow mean earlier comments. The doctor (an MD) and a well respected one suggested honey and humidifiers. We did cough lozenges which help.
Also mean PPs have no clue about the other issues my kid has and the side effects he has had with certain drugs which we can’t take anymore. Just because you want to and can go the lazy route don’t assume others can. Thank you for all the other comments. We did travel so could be a whole new infection. Everyone in the family has been sick. |
| Phlegm is not yellow/green so I didn’t think it was bacterial. |
| Lol you must not know DCUM well there are always a couple of mean snarks here. We have all been dealing with it. I took Mucinex but can't give it to my kids. Cough Lozenges with honey help. |
