Jewish life at William and Mary

DS is a junior right now, also interested in ROTC programs. We don't really know anyone with W and M on their list, not sure if there is a strong Jewish community there. Can anyone speak to this?

According to Hillel it’s 9% Jewish.

OP here, thank you- any sense of what Jewish life on campus is like?

Is your interest only in this college or also how it is on other campuses your DC is interested in?

PP: I’m glad you asked this. I’m also curious. My DC just applied and I’m interested in hearing from those with experience there. FWIW, Jon Stewart went there, so it can’t be all bad 😂

Yeah, the “other” thread got locked by ykw so tread carefully going forward. Our family is no longer considering W&M for our high-stats kid after these separate incidents and their equivocating response:

we’ve turned our gaze to FLORIDA, that’s right, FLORIDA, DCUM! Tulane is under consideration but FL has a high % of Jewish students plus half the family lives there from Nov through late April, so it’s a no-brainer when you add in grandparent resident tuition. GL to you and your kid!

I can this is a no and how are you this dumb

ROTC are you insane?

ROTC will have zero Jews at W and M and anti Jew would be more like it

Not against ROTC great programs however Jews and ROTC extremely tough.

If your kid wants to do service they go to college graduate and then enter. Always do undergrad first then could do medical school through service or anything that requires grad degree.

No you are an idiot
Jew from Florida Ben Sasse now in charge of UF you are literally a moron.

Jews are leaving in droves

While yes UF and State have Jews this is going to end badly there.

No jew with a brain is sending their kid to a state where DeSantis the Nazi i# still in charge

Oh an$ Florida is not a place you are getting in state tuition until after sophomore year you didn’t do your homework

ROTC at W&M is not one of the top one million places I would send a kid looking for Jewish companionship.

To be helpful to OP and their kid looking for a college with a good ROTC and great community, which one would you recommend?

I would recommend you contact them directly; I am sure they are happy to answer any questions or concerns and can provide first-hand knowledge vs an anonymous forum.

I know many people on this board look down on Tulane, but my (not Jewish) kid loves it there. Tulane has both ROTC and a very active Jewish community:

My son is a freshman there, and while not Jewish, has gone to several parties at the Jewish Fraternity and says it's a great group of guys. So there's that.

I know more Jewish kids at UVA, just in state anecdotally. While I admit some of the recent political stuff at a lot of colleges makes me nervous, most Republican led states don’t jibe with the things I believe in as a liberal Jew.

I have actually never personally known any Jewish kids who have done ROTC. I know a few who have attended the service academies.
