Very cuddly dog?

We have a mini goldendoodle we got when our kids were very young. She’s been great. The sweetest and easiest dog ever. But she’s never been a cuddler. She lays in the room with us, occasionally beside the adults with her head on our leg for a short time. She’s getting older and we would like to get another dog in the near future.

Is there really such a thing as a “lap dog” or a very cuddly dog? Our younger daughter is Autistic and our older one is moving out next year. Our younger one would really love a dog who is very, very affectionate and cuddly like would sleep with her and lie down next to her all the time and in her lap. Any recommendations?

It depends on personality, OP. You will have to ask the rescue or breeder you get the dog from.

Our double-coated, super-shedding, Samoyed is incredibly demanding of pets and cuddles. But you will end up with an extra fur coat you didn't ask for at the end, and unaccountably the dog will still look just as pouffy as ever...

Well people are going to hate on me but my Chihuahua loves to cuddle. He is a lap dog and follows us around the house. He takes shorts walks and has very small poops. Plus he eats very little.

Havanese are referred to as velcro dogs.
We once had a 60 lb lab who that she was a 10 lb lap dog. She would literally climb into my lap along with my kids.

Shih Tzus were basically bred to snuggle

My boxer-small mutt mix is a velcro dog. Super people oriented and would be happiest being in physical contact with you 24/7.

Chihuahuas are super cuddly; best thing is to get a mixed breed rescue with some chihuahua and you will likely get a cuddled who is healthier and longer lived than any of the cuddly lapdog purebreds.

Well, my siberian husky/american pir bull terrier ( plus a lot if other breeda) is super cuddly

Retrievers were bred to retrieve things, guard dogs were bred to guard things, lap dogs were bred to be snuggly. Look into one of the many small breeds that were created for this exact purpose.

I once kept a coworker’s large lab for a weekend when she went out of town. I was quite surprised when I laid down on my sofa and the dog hopped up and laid down on top of me. It wasn’t very comfortable, but what a love bug!

It will depend on the personality too. I had 2 dogs of the same breed. One was a Velcro dog, the other was more aloof.
