| I have a 14 year old daughter and 12 year old son. I don’t want them watching two hours of tv at night but they have nothing to do and are bored. Was thinking family podcast night might be fun sometimes. Any recommendations? They like sports and storytelling. I only listen to celeb gossip, news, and true crime which isn't right for them. Thanks for any help…. |

storytelling:
This American Life educational: Things You Missed in History Class Ologies You're Wrong About music: Hit Parade 60 Songs that Explain the 90s Where Were You in 92? maybe a rewatch podcast of a show you watched together as a family? They might also like the original Serial. |
| Not sports or storytelling, but Hard Fork is great. I'm surprised someone listened to 60 Songs that Explain the 90s with their kids (or that their kids would tolerate it. Bur maybe that is just because my favorite episode is about Liz Phair's F*ck and Run |
| We watch Survivor as a family and listen to "On Fire," where the host talks about the gameplay. Pretty good! I also recommend watching Survivor with kids in general; so far, we have watched seasons 16 (a few too many scantily clad women primping about, but still good gameplay) and 45 (nice and nerdy.) Lots of good conversations about who we think will win, get voted off next, etc. |
| Normal gossip? It’s basically storytelling. |

This American life
But this past year they’ve had more dark stories than I remember hearing in yearns past, so I’d screen them or listen to ones you may have already heard. Some don’t get dark until the story twist or until the final story segment. |
That’s our favorite too. We also do wait wait don’t tell me |

Stuff you Should Know
This one kind of reminds me of Mythbusters because it’s two nerdy guys talking, but my kids love that kind of stuff. You can pick and choose the episode based on the topic but we listened to a cool one that was explained the War of the Worlds radio broadcast really well. And there was a Cabbage Patch episode that was fascinating. |

| I’m guilty of “I know this isn’t what you asked but” but really - watch Freaks and Geeks with them. Quality show, lots of jump off points for good, relevant conversations. |
| for storytelling, I definitely suggest This American Life |

The 12 year old might like Unspookable. It can get pretty creepy if you are listening in the dark but it's good. My 12 year old likes it. Also, Myths and Legends.
I listen to audiobooks with my 14 year old DS. |
| How I Built This is great, also This American Life. My kids have enjoyed history podcasts as well like Revisionist History and The Other Half which is telling the history of women. The Moth story hour is good but have to screen a bit carefully through some of the episodes. |
