Family friendly, WOTP neighborhoods - where should we look?

Anonymous
Looking to move WOTP. Want to be nearish metro/major bus lines, SFH (not a rowhome) in the 2-2.5 range most likely. Haven't ruled out Bethesda or Chevy Chase. Want a "community", not just a house (ie, somewhere neighbors know/talk to each other, kids outside walking around/playing, people walk their dogs, block parties, etc). Schools not an issue.

What is WOTP?

Pretty much all of them, but Chevy Chase, DC, the area re-asserting as "wakefield" around Murch, Tenleytown west of Wisconsin Ave, and if you can afford it, Cleveland Park.

Woodley Park has all of this. We have a neighborhood block party on Sunday.

Town of Somerset just over border in CC MD is walkable to friendship heights metro and has a great neighborhood feel. There is a pool and swim team for all the residents. Tons of kids from both public and private schools. All the things you mentioned.

It also has a book of rules and you give up all the freedoms that come with being a home owner who can do stuff with their own property. That’s a no to Somerset, the giant hoa

Ha! What would you want to do?

Garrett Park is wonderful. Lots of events, both for adults and kids. Neighborhood pool (not insanely expensive, either) you don't get waitlisted for. Has a MARC station and is close to Red Line.

Glover Park.

Neither Garrett Park nor Somerset are "west of the Park DC" - why do people keep inserting their suburban neighborhoods into these discussions?

Agree!

What's your budget, OP?

Probably because OP didn't say "WOTP DC" and instead said they are also looking in Chevy Chase and Bethesda?

If someone who lives WOTP in DC and thinks it's somehow different from the close in suburbs, they are fooling themselves.

Can’t really buy a single family house for $2-$2.5 million in Woodley anymore, unless you’re up for a big project.
