Does Tenleytown feel dangerous?

Anonymous
With the uptick in crime (someone got mugged at the Tenleywon metro last week at 5:00 pm!) is Tenley feeling dangerous to folks? Do you think twice about walking around? Looking over your shoulder? Obviously there are significantly more dangerous portions of DC, but for folks in the area, have you felt uneasy?

A mugging at 5pm in Tenley? Run for your lives!

It's in the city, there have been regular muggings. Maybe a bit worse but nothing too bad.

Living in a city, I am always on alert. It's the mentally ill people that concern me the most up and down Wisconsin and make me feel uneasy, but to answer your question, no, I don't feel Tenley is any more dangerous than any other part of DC.

I don’t like to walk around the metro stop or the Wawa area. Lots of strange people there

No.

It’s not anything like other parts of DC. It’s safe for being part of city. Other areas further into DC are much scarier in my opinion

Someone getting mugged in broad daylight is no big deal to you? God, I’m so glad I don’t live in any of these shithole American cities.

The DMV: it's all Ganglandia!

It’s genuinely odd how warped people are in DC. This is supposed to be a nice family neighborhood and someone got mugged in broad daylight. This should alarm people.

I do not feel uneasy around Tenleytown, and my middle-schooler is allowed to walk around there (with friends) after school. Obviously everyone has different perceptions and comfort levels, so I'm not sure how helpful an anonymous rando on the Internet saying this is for you (or how helpful it would be if I said the opposite), though.

I fear the number of people that I will run into who live in a 2.5M 3 bdr house in CCDC.

There is some element there in various ways. I think there is a VA nearby or some mental health place and some of the high school students are just aggressive and offensive. It's my metro stop, and I then bus to my house a few minutes away. I usually feel safe but stay alert to get out of the way/look busy when people are acting nuts. Interestingly there are also some aggressive racist geriatrics there so it's a potpourri of weirdness. Having said that, in the scheme all, it's a safer DMV location for sure.

Are you talking about the guy who sits out in front of the cvs all day, everyday?

Yes. I was at the corner of Van Ness and Wisconsin the other day and it's not the same. I think WPI has a lot to do with it. There were several police visits to WPI while I was there.
