Luke Combs Sells out Stadiums

What's the appeal?

I never heard of this guy until some of my GenXer's high school and college age kids started posting on FB, in their cowgirl hats going to his concert at a football stadium.

I watched one of his videos for about two seconds. He looks like Larry the Cable Guy, to me.

I like old school country, like Clint Black, one of my favorites. I still want my country music singers to be somewhat clean shaven. I never really liked Kenny Chesney, although all the women swooned over him and his butt.

I love 90s country but don’t follow current country at all. The first time I had heard of him was because he has a hit cover of Tracy Chapman’s Fast Car.

He is a prolific song writer and has a distinct style that is just enough to set him apart from the others in his demographic. And he has enough of a get drunk and party vibe that people will go see him at a stadium so they can party.

I don't love all his songs, but they're usually sing along worthy, if that's your brand of music. And I do love "Even Though I'm Leaving."

Don’t get the appeal of Taylor Swift or Chris Stapleton either.

He’s very talented.

Listen to these songs two or three times—catchy.

Beer never broke my heart
When it rains it pours
She got the best of me

So many more.

My 21 year old pretty much hates country music. But the one song he loves is When it Rains it Pours. He sings the whole thing in a very twangy voice.

I've seen him in concert. I tend to like a different kind of country - Colter Wall, Tyler Childers. But Luke Combs puts on a great show. He has a great voice. Sounds just like his recordings. He's got a tow truck driver vibe but his songs are really catchy. Everyone knows the words. It's a high energy evening. Recommend

Incredibly talented performer and song writer. Story goes he showed up to present his songs for an album and the producers asked him who he would like to sing those songs? He replied, me. He's not the typical heart throb one would expect, but he stole the show in country music and pop music with his debut album. I believe he is now opening a sports/music bar on Broadway in Nashville sometime in the near future.

Maybe listen to him before degrading him. Just a thought. Usually more credible that way.

Tracy Chapman called and she wants her fast car back!

Some people like Larry the Cable Guy. That's not exactly degradation.

Clint Black is very appealing to me. Luke Combs, not so much. That's not degradation. I just don't like his appearance, and I wouldn't pay money to see him. He's obviously not putting in much effort in his appearance for someone who is on stage Young people today, especially young women, are attracted to men who put so little thought and effort into the way they dress and groom themselves? This isn't a debate about country music vs. rap music or rural vs. urban.

You did answer my question, though, I guess, about his tow truck driver appeal. I didn't call him a tow driver.

I just watched a YouTube interview with Jimmy Kimmel, and Luke Combs describes his look as a "Jiffy Lube" look. I don't see how I degraded him, when he refers to his style as a "Jiffy Lube" look. He probably can't believe that people pay money to see him perform. I can't, either. LoL.
