Does any grocery store sell paneer?

Anonymous
I like ordering it in restaurants, but I find restaurant food generally to be greasy enough that I don't want to eat it regularly. I feel like paneer could be good made simply just with some onions, peppers, tomatoes sauteed in.

My family up in NJ tells me there you can buy paneer at Costco but I haven't seen it in any grocery store here. Any ideas? Obviously fine with going to an Indian store too if someone could give me a few options - is it the type of thing that any Indian grocery would have or just a large store with refrigerator sections etc.?

I'm in Arlington and tend to run my errands in Arlington, Tysons, McLean etc. so any ideas in that area?

Any Indian store would have it. Trader Joe's also has it, I believe.

I have not seen it at Costco here. Costco here also does not have ghee, which I have seen elsewhere, so we make our own.

Costco in Gaithersburg consistently stocks it (Gopi brand). I've also seen it in the Kentlands Whole Foods.

Second question - if you're not going to use the 8 oz package all for one meal, can you keep the rest even though package says use in 5 days?

Like can you cube it up and freeze it to cook with it again later? Or will it not keep?

Yes you can use it later. My mom used to make paneer at home and freeze it for later use.

Costco in Beltsville and Columbia (and probably VA burbs) have paneer. Also TJ's and probably Whole Foods.

Wegmans in Germantown has paneer. I’ve never seen it at the Wheaton Costco.

Any Indian store worth its salt will have paneer. I go the the Patel’s in Montgomery Village.

If you get storebought paneer soak it for 10 minutes in hot water after cubing it. Otherwise it will retain its rubbery texture.

I just bought some at the DC Wegmans.

Most of the DC area Costcos have it. Gaithersburg and Chantilly esp since those areas have a decent sized Indian population.

Also paneer is really easy to make at home. Milk and some vinegar/ lemon juice is all you need.

Wegmans, both Chantilly and Fairfax. Whole Foods, Fair Lakes. And yes, every single Indian store that I have ever been to.

I've even seen it in Harris Teeter.
