| When comparing test scores on great schools, I am shocked that the MD state average is almost half of VA's in math and english proficiency. Are these National or State standards. Are Maryland standards higher than VA? Or are we that far behind? |
| They're different tests and not comparable. The Maryland tests are pretty terrible. The Virginia tests vary in difficulty, for some years the tests are considered easy and then they make it harder for a few years until they decide it's too hard and make them easier, etc. |
| What's the ESOL and FARMs rate in MD vs VA schools? There's part of your answer. |

Here is a good break-down:
https://fairfax.homebyschool.com/fairfax-county-public-schools-ranking-2012/ In sum FFX > MoCo (but, not by a wide margin) |
Maryland's state tests are a lot harder than Virginia's, and as such, there's no surprise that their pass rates are lower. |
LOL. That's hilarious that you think so. |
Their pass rates are lower because Baltimore City has a larger percentage of their public school population |
I have went to Brandywine Elemantry school and the place is basically ghetto not just that school but the whole entire county is just ghetto itself and a lot of people just don't pay attention in class so when its time to do the SOL its most likely they fail

Sorry but bolded is the correct answer. Of course Baltimore does a lot to bring overall scores down. |
The average Virginia SAT score is 1101 to 1116, for the whole state, while Maryland’s statewide average is only 998. |
yet the NMSF cutoff has been higher in MD than VA. |
Only 48% Virginia students take the SAT test, while 73% of students in Maryland take the test. The higher your participation rate, the lower your score tends to trend. Kansas has the highest average SAT score with 1238, but Kansas also has lower test participation than most of the US at 2%. https://scholarships360.org/college-admissions/average-sat-score/#:~:text=A%20key%20factor%20to%20keep%20in%20mind,because%20the%20pool%20of%20test%2Dtakers%20is%20larger.
