Front brakes and rotor replacement cost

Anonymous
Does anybody know what it should cost to replace brakes and rotors from the front only (nissan suv)? I was just quoted $500 which seems high to me.

Order the parts and do it yourself.

Maybe slightly high but not outrageously so.

Agree with pp. look at YouTube and do it yourself.

Go to rockauto and check the prices of pads and rotors for your car. Typically should be $100-200 for parts. It is a 30 min job for a mechanic, so shouldn’t be more than 150 in labor. Another 100 if they included a break fluid flush. So, 500 might be reasonable if they are using premium parts and doing the break fluid.

The price isn't very high. You could get it done cheaper at an independent mechanic but not by that much.

It’s a reasonable price. Usually for brakes about half the cost is parts.

I don't live in the DC area, but I was recently quoted $365 for the same work that you're describing.

Forgot to say that my vehicle is a 2016 Ford Explorer.

Cost will depend on the kind of car you have. Your quote doesn’t sound too high for this area.

Price seems about right.

Find out the cost of the parts, you can check Advanced Auto or Auto Zone. It takes about an hour at most to change the brakes and rotors. Anyone can do it at home with a youtube video.

An hour to change front brakes and rotors in your driveway? That is assuming you are proficient at that. Would be a lot longer for someone doing this for the first time. Especially if you run into issues such as a seized caliper, rotor rusted onto hub, etc.

Do you NEED to change the rotors? Most of the time, dealerships want you to change them during every brake pad change and that’s not true if the rotors are fine.

I usually buy the brake pads from autozone, call you the Brakesquad who come to your house and change the pads, and done. It’s about 200 bucks total.

Check to see if your rotors are truly bad or not though.

I was just quoted $670 for my 2021 MB glc 300. I don’t know the mechanic well and he’s saying my rotors and pads need changing to stop the occasional squeak coming from them when I bake up. He claims they are rusted. I’m not sure I trust this. The car has 16,000 miles.
