First lady Jill Biden, on a five-day, two-nation trip to Africa with granddaughter Naomi, told The Associated Press on Friday that President Joe Biden intends to run for president again.
After two days in Namibia, the first lady touched down in Kenya earlier Friday where she was again welcomed with dancing and smiles for the second leg of her trip. Her 29-year-old granddaughter Naomi, who last year was married at the White House, helped hold down her grandmother's dress as a windy day greeted them on the tarmac. Jill Biden on Thursday defended bringing granddaughter Naomi Biden on a taxpayer funded trip to Africa, noting that other presidents and first ladies have brought family members on foreign trips. 'It's so great for me to be able to bring a member of the family. I think it's a tradition, or, actually that we've seen other families from first families, bring members of their family to just see the rest of the world and just experience the world,' she said during a stop in Namibia. Naomi Biden is the first family's oldest grandchild and lives in the White House. She had her wedding to Peter Neal on the South Lawn in November. So, Naomi and her husband still live in the WH. |

Whenever a president holds a private party in the White House, they are responsible for paying the hourly costs for waiters and cleanup crews. This aspect of the festivities is not covered by taxpayers. All other expenses are paid by taxpayers. When other heads of state or government visit the United States, there’s an expectation that the president of the United States will give them a gift. But according to Jennifer Capps, curator and historian at the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site in Indianapolis, presidents must pay for these gifts out of pocket. When a president goes on vacation, they have to foot the bill for the hotel or rental house where they stay with their family, Vigilante explains. The exception to this is Camp David, which is covered, as are the costs of security and travel to and from the vacation. (That’s why wealthy “friends” (donors) let presidents and their families stay at their fancy homes for vacations. Most households need certain things to function, like toilet paper, toothpaste, and garbage bags.
