| How funny is that? I thought its a documentary but it turned out to be a hilarious comedy. |
My tween started watching it on SB last year because the rental had cable. Funny, but lots and lots of jokes about casual sex. Tons of casual sex jokes, several times per episode. |
| I loved it! Binged all the seasons over a few weeks. |

I'm watching and really enjoying it. Most episodes end and I realize I'm still smiling.
I wish there was a little less focus on weight. I'm also confused about what happened to Dr. Reed after the first season. It seems like they rewrote his characteristics from sexy confident British womanizer doctor to dweeby British office manager who overeats and has trouble getting a date. Did anyone else notice that or am I misremembering? |
He goes back to being thin and attractive, but stays kind of dweebish. Of course, he was only “tv fat.” They dressed him in baggier clothing and added a bit of padding to his middle, while the rest of him looked exactly the same. Like how when a female character is supposed to be unattractive, so they hire an attractive actress, put glasses on her and give her a hairstyle that isn’t especially flattering…voila, “tv ugly.” |
I’m watching with my 15 year old. We just watched an episode about Danny wanting to try anal sex with Mindy and assuming that she was super experienced, based on her reputation.
|
| Too much casual sex indeed and lack of black characters but its funny. |
Not misremembering (we just did a rewatch). But it's also not that uncommon for a character to get a transformation if their first iteration isn't quite working - or if they haven't yet figured out what to do with the character. Like Winston on New Girl - early Winston is very different from later Winston (later Winston is much better!). |
Yes. They constantly talk about Mindy being fat and unappealing it's so annoying. They reference the fact that Mindy used to hook up with Dr. Reed (it was in the pilot) in early episodes but then they shy away from that/him as a womanizer because it doesn't really help propel stories forward. I am a fan of the show but I also think they should have added more dimensions to the Peter Prentice character. He's the extreme epitome of gross frat boy and being shallow about women AND their bodies.... but also, a good OBGYN who deal in lady parts and babies all day? |
Yes, I watched when it first came out and always thought that was odd. I enjoyed the show but no need to watch again. I am surprised people are acting like they have never heard of it before now. |
|
Love the show. There is already a big thread on it.
Of course it has lots of sex talk. It's like a more modern sex in the city, with the focus on one professional. The target audience isn't your 15 year old. BTW, there isn't anything wrong with casual sex. |
| Watched this so long ago but one thing that bothered me was that in the first season Mindy had female friends/friends outside the practice. In future seasons she was so focused on Danny and no longer seemed to have any life away from him. |
I had heard the title but before it recently came to Netflix didn't have an easy way to watch. |
Yes! I'm only partway through but it seems like Peter is going to have a breakthrough moment and then, nope. |
| Everything she does is sex obsessed. She's like a teenager. I find her shows unwatchable b/c of it - just too one note to be interesting for a whole season. |
