Can you listen to Audiobooks in bed?

Anonymous
Random question…

I’m a huge reader, somewhat new to audiobooks. I typically listen to books when I’m walking my dogs or doing chores. I’m finding I can’t listen to a book in bed without falling asleep within 5 minutes. This is not the case with “regular” books.

Just me? I’m now reading/listening to two books at the same time because of this quirk...

I listen and play a mindless game

I consider this a feature, not a bug. When I lay down I bookmark my spot, set the timer for 30 min and never reach the end. Next day, I just start from my bookmarked spot.

I listen to them in order to fall asleep! Works like a charm.

+1 I do exactly this.

Though, right now I’m listening to Boehner’s book and it feels a little creepy to fall asleep to him each night. 🤣

I find that I need to listen at 1.5x instead of my usual 2.0x

Ok, interesting—thank you! I already listen to all audiobooks at 1.5 speed but maybe I need to adjust my expectations on what/how long I can listen before bed

I am the opposite. Audiobooks keep me up, but when I switch to print, I’m asleep within a few pages.

I cannot listen to audio books in bed, nor can I listen to them if I'm sitting down. I too fall asleep really quickly.

Yes, but only non-fiction books. It is the only thing that turns off my overthinking brain and puts me to sleep within 15 minutes.

How do you deal with earbuds? Do you use them?

I listen to audiobooks while I play games on my phone. If all I'm doing is lying in bed and listening, I will absolutely fall asleep.

My husband is not usually there so I can have the book playing out loud. If he's there, though, I have this sleep mask thingy I can use. Something like this:

I listen to help me sleep. I’m a side sleeper and just use one air bud and I turn the speed down to 0.8 speed. My sleep books are different than my walking/driving books - lots of nonfiction that you can pick up anywhere.

I listen to podcasts in bed. If I fall asleep, I listen again the following night.
