Why don’t people train their dogs?

In my neighborhood there are dogs jumping, barking, pulling on leash, and just acting kind of nuts. Why don’t people train their dogs or hire a dog trainer? It must not be fun to live with a dog like that right??

One of my dogs jumps and growls at other dogs because of who-knows-what-happened in her prior life before she was picked up as a stray and we adopted her. I’ve spent 2.5 years training her, in obedience classes and with behavioralists. We’ve made progress, she behaves well in the house and can follow all kinds of commands. She has several AKC titles. But if you ran into us on the street and she didn’t like your dog you’d think I’ve done nothing to train her.

My dog is perfectly calm and friendly indoors.
Outdoors, he is reactive when he meets large dogs, because one tried to disembowel him when he was 11 weeks old. We cannot train it out of him - it's rooted in a deep instinct of survival. He's fine with smaller dogs.

Clearly you have no knowledge of dog psychological or behavior.

Same reason they don't discipline their kids - it's a lot of work and it's hard and they just ... don't want to.

A coworker has a son only a few months older than mine and we live close to each other, get along really well, but hers is a terror. THey're both three. She says she gets so little time with him she doesn't want to spend it disciplining him. But then she asks why mine has such good manners and is so good at sharing and taking turns, etc. I invest the time. Same with dogs.

This is the result of untrainable dogs being adopted by the aDoPt DoNt ShOp fools.

Dog training costs way more than "training" kids. Also, we have greater expectations of dogs than we did when most people grew up. And training takes time so you may see a dog that has had training/classes but, they are still animals and a work in progress!

This again? Are you a trainer looking for job?

Like kids, even well trained dogs can have a bad day, especially if they are young. I was walking my one-year-old on a leash last week and he lunged toward another dog and scared the crap out of the teenager walking the dog. I apologized profusely and scolded my dog. I still feel bad about it. Training is a process. It takes time.

This is completely unrelated to the post topic. Also, I can tell you have only one child if you think they should all act exactly the same and the only difference is discipline.

Very few dogs are actually untrainable. The random capital letters are obnoxious. You show up here a lot with the same line. We got it the first time, you are insecure about your decision to buy a puppy. Nobody cares.

People don't even raise their own children, you can't expect them to properly train their dog.

Most dog owners don’t actually have the time needed to properly take care of a dog. They are over scheduled with work, family, etc. Dog training takes time and effort.

This - and they often pick the wrong dog breed for their family by focusing on size, coat, overall aesthetics instead of temperament.

You're asking this in the city of growing violence and untrained kids/ teens?
