What Gospel songs do you like?

I'm trying to update my playlist with more gospel and an curious to know what sings others listen to. If it gets you through something or helps with a mood, that's a benefit, but I'm trying to remember all the songs I used to sing in church that we no longer sing.

Which sub genre of gospel? There are so many that people can often mean very different things, even if they are the same racial group and roughly the same age.

What are the sub genres?
This morning I woke up listening to Kirk Franklin. Is his music gospel?
- I Smile
- Melodies from Heaven
- Gonna Be a Lovely Day

And
- Take me to the King

I can't remember what else I listened to. I think it was some choirs because I was looking for certain songs and I can't remember which ones I found.

His Eye is on the Sparrow
Swing Low, Sweet Chariot
In the Garden
How Great Thou Art
Amazing Grace

I guess the last three are more traditional hymns as opposed to Gospel music, but I have strong memories of my grandmother singing these to me when I was a child. She had such a beautiful voice, even when she was well into her 80s.

I grew up in the Methodist church and miss the days of traditional hymns in Sunday services. So many churches appear to have gone the route of full contemporary music and praise bands. Give me a little church choir with hymnals any day!

I like the bass voice. Very commanding and sincere

I like this singer named Audrey Assad. She's a nice mix between traditional and contemporary.

The King is Coming, though I haven’t found a version that I love (I like Gloria Gaither’s version, not the godawful evangelical/country/pop/rock version).

When I Rose This Morning

And it was probably intended just for White audiences, but the two songs from Ladykillers - Trouble of this World and Shine on Me - are two of my favorite songs ever. They just hit a perfect mix for me. Rest In Peace, Rickey Grundy.

I likes Leslie Jordan’s album that he did just before he died. Something fun.
