My cat found a mouse in our house this morning and was running around with it in her mouth for about a minute. My DH put garden gloves on and removed it from her mouth and threw it outside; he said it was still alive - he could feel it moving in his hands. My cat has no teeth except for three canines so I doubt she punctured it’s skin. I emailed the vet and am waiting for a response but googled it in the meantime. I’m just wondering if there’s anything I need to do - wash my cat, take her to the vet, etc.
My cat loves to give kisses so I will avoid that for a while, haha. Gross! I will also call Ternminix! |
| What? It’s fine. That is what cats do. |
| Cats have been eating mice for generations. She’s fine unless it was rapid. |
| You can’t be serious. She didn’t even eat it, just had it in her mouth for a minute? This is literally why many people get cats in the first place. |
| So the cat didn’t even eat the mouse? |
|
A) LOL
B) The only time you have to worry is if you have put mouse or rat poison out. If your dog or cat eats a potentially poisoned mouse or rat, they have potentially eaten poison and need to throw up immediately. |
| Face it, your cute, fluffy cat is a killer. |
|
You need to throw your garden gloves and wash your hands and lower arms 50 times. Don’t even think about letting your cat lick you.
|
| Have you ever heard a cat called a "good mouser"? Cats eat mice. The only reason you need to worry is if you have poison out or you're not up to date on your dewormer. |
| Technically, your cat did NOT eat a mouse. Your post stated your DH threw it into the yard. |
Hahaha |
You’re right, I mistyped. |
I don’t think she’s had a dewormer - she’s an indoor cat. |
| Haha. Good one. For the hysteria, I thought you were talking about your kid. Your cat did what cats do. |
You don't need to give one unless the vet finds worms/eggs when a fecal is done. Just have it done at her next exam. She'll be fine. |
