Why is fcps making elementary kids drag laptops to/from school?

I don’t understand why my kid needs to take this laptop to and from school. He barely even gets any homework. I miss when they would have a math worksheet of homework and maybe something written. He carried this laptop to and from school daily last year and never used it at home besides to charge.

I didn’t see laptops out for my kindergarten child so I’m hoping/expecting that she won’t have to carry it. I remember my friend telling me that her tiny son had difficulty carrying his backpack with the laptop that was too heavy for him last year. She said he would tip over. The boy was the smallest in his class.

Must be a school decision. My kids leave theirs at school

Just opt out of laptop usage

I think it’s school by school - for most of last year, my kindergartener was able to leave his at school; once Covid concerns ramped up with Delta, the school laptop stayed home full time but for a weekly “computer lab”. Much better than carrying it back and forth daily.

I’m hoping this year, since the likelihood of being quarantined at home is so slim, the laptops will stay in the classroom.

To charge?

FCPS isn’t making them. The school may be.

This is a school admin decision. Just leave it at home I guess? No need to drag it back and forth. ES kids shouldn't be on laptops daily in class.

School admin decision. My K kid didn't bring hers home at all last year.

My 3rd grader isn't either at Laurel Ridge.

It’s a school or maybe teacher decision. My DD wasn’t issued a laptop to take home this year. Yet. During the hybrid time of covid, the teacher let them keep them in the class. Last year the teacher made them bring them back and forth. We haven’t heard a word about laptops yet this year.

DS didn't bring his laptop home last year but that was because he lost the charging cord, no clue how he pulled that off. We also told the Teacher we had a computer he could use at home if it was needed.

If my kid schlepped a laptop home, I would keep it there. Win win.

My kid have never brought home his laptop. And, last year he had a math worksheet for hw M-Th.

Last year, our school had only grades 3+ bring laptops back and forth. No word on how they will be doing it this year. My hope is that they'll only do it for winter.

I would also not be sendinf it back and forth. Nope. It can stay home or stay at school. Home is my preference to keep them off it at school.
