| Hi! Just wondering peoples’ thoughts on whether there is overall less bullying and better behavior in AAP classes for middle school. Also, any difference in center schools vs local for this? |
| How would anyone here know this? All you will get is random speculation based on scant evidence. Bullying is going to happen regardless of the school your child attends. The better question is about how responsive teachers and administrators are when it does happen. And what is the school culture among students. You would want responses from this past year, not "Ten years ago when dd attended..." Those are so not helpful. |

Is bullying any more of a problem among AAP than for non-AAP students? I've not heard that it is, but this is a real question.
That said, I can't imagine bullying being less prevalent among any middle school population vs. elementary, just given what we know about kids' behavior at different ages. Seventh grade seems to be the height of this problem almost everywhere. |
| I don't know that there is less bullying in AAP v Gen Ed or middle school v. elementary school, but middle school is an opportunity to get your child away from known bullies. Depending on the ES you came from, there may not have been an ability to separate your kid from a bully because there weren't enough classes. In middle school, there generally are many more classes of each section and they are able to keep kids apart that have had problems in the past, if you make a request. |
| Of course there is better behavior in AAP classes lol. How is that even a question |
AAP students have better behaviors in general because they focus more on study. |

My daughter was bullied within in an inch of her life in late elementary in a well regarded AAP center. A group of girls intentionally and repeatedly sat near the nut free table with peanuts and Nutella to torment her. The school did nothing until another girl wrote a note to my daughter telling her to jump off a building because everyone hated her and no one would miss her. During the ensuing bullying investigation, the vice principal outed my daughter to other students. That investigation was ongoing when COVID hit and, to my knowledge, was never completed. We left FCPS and will not return.
So, no, I don't think bullying is better just because it is AAP. |
So you think bullying doesn't happen within AAP classes? |
AAP Center School certainly may also have bullies. However comparing with other schools, AAP center schools should be better. It's just like the drug issues in the high school. I don't think TJ is absolutely drug free, but TJ should be much better than other schools on drug issues. |
Why yes! Always steer clear of the unwashed masses in steerage. |
Amen |
I disagree. AAP is less likely to have the jock type boy bullies that tend to be more physical. But, physical bullying is not the only type of bullying. Some of the biggest bullies out there are the bright, sneaky, manipulative girls who engage in very toxic, targeted behaviors to socially and psychologically destroy others. The three girls who bullied my DD in second grade all got into AAP. The worst part is that teachers and most adults think that girls like this are perfect angels who could never possibly do anything wrong. |
This is horrible. I'm so sorry that happened to your daughter. |
+1. My nightmare (specifically the food allergies). |
So true. Anyone who thinks AAP kids don't bully is deluding themselves. |
