Did anybody decline TJ offer and why

If you declined TJ admission offer let us know which MS your child went to and why they declined

I wish I had. My child ended up missing his friends terribly. Wish he had never gone.

Funny how there are so many posts recently saying how horrible TJ is. Posts from waitlist parents?

Really? I see a dozen new TJ-focused threads. It’s almost as if the TJ parents need constant reassurance that TJ is the center of the universe.

I wondered if they were trolls but some seemed pretty genuine regarding the stress.

Without doubt there are some who are legitimate and some who are trying to game the system. It is no accident that you see a flood of such posts at any deadline (deadline to accept the spot, deadline to remain on the waitlist, etc).

I saw on a chat of people from this year and last year, there was a person who is currently on staff at some schools in either a gifted or counselor capacity. This person emphasized to be sure to consider the difficulty level of TJ and to not go if the child cannot handle it. Whether because of this I don't know, but some who were admitted said in this chat group they planned to not accept the spot.

DC declined because they wanted a high school with more diversity.

I could definitely see some kids from Cooper and Longfellow turning down TJ for Langley and McLean, especially if they find out that some of their brightest peers were denied admission. You don't have to commute to Alexandria, and you know you'll have classes with many of the same kids for another four years.

Kids DO turn down TJ. My own kids never would have gotten in, but a family friend's kid absolutely did get in and in the end the family decided she wouldn't go. The reason was simple: while she had plenty of math and science aptitude, she was more interested in English and History. So it made no sense. She ended up graduating at the top of her neighborhood school class and got into a top school regardless..

Yes (though they deny it, because anonymous message board). Either waitlist or kids who weren’t good enough to get in or even to realistically apply. Sour grapes.
