| The title really says it all. We are trying to narrow our focus in a real estate hunt. What sports are no cut at the high school level, and which high school? Sports of interest include cross country, track, tennis, golf, swimming, dive. If there is a website to learn this information, could someone link? |
|
Our large FCPS high school doesn’t have any no-cut teams except maybe freshman football. Every other sports team cuts.
For cross-country and track I don’t think the times to make the team as a freshman are particularly fast. |
|
Crew?
Track I thought was no cut - my DD participated and enjoyed. |
| Are you a realtor? Didn’t grow up in the US? |
| Cross country and track (indoor and outdoor) are no cut in Fairfax County Public Schools. Football too, I’m pretty sure. |
|
Soccer
Swim |
| This is going to vary by HS. What is your budget and commute. People can then recommend specific schools. |
| Falls Church City (Meridian High School) -- most of the sports you mentioned are VERY easy to make. |
This is not true. At our FCPS high school, cross country and track are very much "cut." Freshman football is no cut. But JV and Varsity have competitive tryouts. |
| As others have mentioned it varies by high school. In Arlington County Public Schools, swimming is a no-cut sport. |
Soccer absolutely has cuts at public school level. There are too many players in the area. |

OP again. I’m sorry, this was a poorly worded question. (Yes, I am from the U.S., but you might be surprised to know that this varies tremendously across the U.S. just as it varies right here in the DC area…) we are looking at the following high schools:
Yorktown W-L Wakefield Meridian Woodson Robinson West Springfield Marshall Lake Braddock And my specific query is - is swimming no cut? I know at some of these schools it is cut throat. Running? Crew? Dive? Tennis? Again, my kids aren’t terrible, but they are not currently Olympic level but I still would like to buy a house where they have a prayer of competing. Thanks for any help.
|
| Some of it has to do with resources. Sports like tennis are cut sports, because there's only so many courts to use. At Yorktown, crew allows everyone to train for the first half of the year, but then in the second half they only field so many kids, so they will get "cut". I think track may not be cut, but we haven't looked into that one. |
| We are at West Springfield HS: I believe track and field are no cuts, but everything else is. Our swim team is very competitive and there are multiple cuts made each year. |
Swim is definitely not no-cut at some schools. There’s only so much lane space available. Our FCPS HS has absolutely had to cut kids. |
