Neighborhoods in Long Island

Anonymous
We are considering a move to the NY area and considering either the Long Island or Westchester area. Interested in hearing opinions about areas in Long Island that may have good public schools (our kids are all in elementary school currently) and may be less conservative? Perhaps somewhere comparable to Bethesda/CC here?

Thanks!

It's "on" long island, not "in."

Check out Jericho, Manhasset, great neck.

I grew up in Chevy Chase and my sister has lived on the Hudson side of Westchester for 25 years. I can’t imagine choosing Long Island instead.

Manhasset and not conservative do not belong in the same sentence.

Agree with pp. “On” Long Island is the correct phrasing. It’s “in Westchester” and “on Long Island”. Is what it is.

Manhasset and great neck are on the best train line and if you need to travel..both have easy access to both LaGuardia and JFK.

Manhasset is rich , lax bro, no one would every describe it as progressive.

Great neck has north and south. Different so make sure to look into that.

Jericho revolves around the Uber competitive top school district.

Yeah but I expect you live in the DMV given how completely uptight and focused on this you seem.

If you're thinking of moving to LI, you might as well know how people refer to it--someone's going to correct you eventually so why not gently and without the embarrassment of face to face!

I grew up in Suffolk County ON Long Island. Later lived Upstate. Now live in DC.

I return to Long Island to see family.

It is very crowded and traffic is always, always a thing. So hard to get across the bridges.

I would never choose such a trapped congested area.

I would avoid Long Island. It is so old seeming, so played out, and creepy.
