I really liked it too

I started the book years ago but could not get past reading the male love interest was 19. 24 is better but it could have worked at any age with any famous artist who's plagued by paparazzi and a grueling touring schedule.

yep, I just want more

apparently just the trailer to this movie is breaking streaming records (someone said while interviewing the Hayes character)

Loved it! That and Spinning Out were good mindless entertainment. The beautiful actors & actresses definitely helped.

The things I would do to Anne Hathaway. Good God.

I was hesitant to watch because of how much I loved the book. I was worried the movie wouldn't do it justice or would ruin it. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Obviously, the book was much better because you got more of the story, but I think the movie is a solid adaptation.

I agree that the daughter's awkwardness in the book was missing from the movie. The daughter appeared too old in the movie. I also was annoyed by them driving her to and from school when there was a whole part of the movie about buying her a car.

The fact they had to drop her off and pick her up should have been a point of conflict, because with all the paps camped outside her house, it wasn’t safe for the daughter to drive around alone.

This is why it needs to be a limited series! We need more.
BTW, I just couldn’t with the book when he was 19. I think the changes made the move palatable and then awesome. All the other little details and missteps pps mention, could have been explained better with more time. But from book to movie: 100% excellent improvement.

It was fluff and I loved it. Anne Hathaway can often come on strong as an actress but I liked her and she had good chemistry with the actor. I haven’t read that book but I think I agree with PP that I’m glad the kid was aged up, for some reason 19 doesn’t sit with me as well as 24.

Right and I preferred aging the daughter as well. The “5 years later” -so sappy & lovely- works better with her off on her own.

The movie was fine, nothing I was I crazy about. I never read the book. I suspect I wouldn’t like it given the younger age of Hayes. Still, could’ve been worse because 19 is a little better than the real life 17-year-old Harry Styles with 31-year-old Caroline Flack. I can’t find anything romantic in that.

And the actual actors playing the characters are 41 and 29, which makes it even more digestible (appearance-wise)

This is one of the few adaptations better than the book. Anne H says so much with her face, voice, body, that you don’t need all the description a book gives.

Disagree. It was a 90s formulaic romance, but I miss those. So welcome and fun.

I wonder if she didn't take ozempic. She's gotten very, very thin.

She’s scary skinny in the movie. She’s 41 IRL. It’s not easy to be that thin. Her arms and thighs are too teeny tiny.

Yes, I was a little shocked by the bathing suit scene. Absolutely zero fat on her body now.

And then they had to make her pretend to feel self concious about her body and wear a frumpy caftan at the pool. That was a really false note in the film

She was self-conscious about her boobs having "fallen" compared to 20 or early 20's women. But that getup she wore at the pool was AWFUL and unrealistic. If they'd just given her a sarong that would have been more believable.

That's true. The kaftan was something a 75 year old would wear.

I read the book and I think that Hayes needed to be 19 in it. Otherwise their love was true strong and would've endured. The whole point of it all is that it's barely digestible so the reader shares her discomfort about letting him lead his life and how she would ultimately hamper that. She also was very unself-conscious in the book and didn't hide her body or self at all. She was a stunner and knew it and it sounded like her confidence was what drew men, especially Hayes to her.
