Which episodes of “Your College Bound Kid”

I've had a few conversations with him over past two years. He's generous with his time and less expensive than local counselors, but as someone else said, too chatty.

Wade through the podcast, there's valuable nuggets there.

Good explanation of how/why private HS kids get the WL calls first.

Wow. The episode with the EC analysis was helpful.

Explains why my kid got into the T15 school that he did (he explained how he would authentically help the community/school advance the mission) vs when he didn’t get in to certain T20 (those “why” essays were more focused on what the kid would get out of school - rather than what the school could get from the kid).

simple tweak but makes a very big difference in how the essay reads. Makes you realize these schools really don’t care about the kids. It’s what’s in it for them.

Can I just read the transcript? I can't stand listening to podcasts, but I'm willing to take a few min to skim a transcript.

Or maybe the schools know that many, many kids could benefit from what they have to offer. So how do they differentiate? They look for students who will also be productive community members.

I really appreciate YCBK and all the hosts and guests. Mark is providing FREE information and I find everyone on the show to be nuanced and thoughtful. I’ve learned a lot. Yes the shows can sometimes be long but I listen at faster speed and just skip topics I’m not interested in.
I like hearing from Julia even though my kids will never be boarding school kids. And I love Susan, to be she seems so caring and wise!

Listened to the April 3 episode on “observations from this year’s admissions decisions”.

Really interesting and it closely parallels what we are hearing from CCO & senior parents from our (private) HS….esp about certain T20 schools.

Worth a listen.

The observations…part 1.
The tidbits per applicant (and the nuance) and changes in admissions chances by school that they noticed this cycle ….really helpful when navigating for current junior. I thought the granularity was interesting as an outsider.
