Three people reeking in white privilege rambling about colleges over lunch.

Except Mark's not white.

Ya, that made me laugh. This person doesn't actually listen to YCBK or hasn't listened much. And, I agree, Mark does genuinely seem like a really nice person. Y'all can be so mean. I get that the show isn't for everyone, but there is no need to insult the hosts.

For someone who doesn't want to listen to a long podcast, their college highlights are good: https://yourcollegeboundkid.com/all-college-spotlights. I like their newer ones which are longer, but their old ones are nice snapshots.

Julia and Vince are both first gen.

You people are crazy.

Two friends in different parts of the country. One worked with him and was not a good experience. Entire process was unorganized, didn't keep track of student's progress and seemed uninterested. Outcome was good but not because of the counseling. They got the impression the podcast was first priority over the student. And that he only takes high-achievers that have better chances. Other friend worked with the counselor in the midwest and was pleased with the experience, actually was engaged with the student and paid attention to them. Don't know the name but not the one that works with LD/ADHD students

Agree with this. His team members provide better college counseling than he does.

I'm fairly certain everyone on the counselors on his team is first-gen except for him. Susan's not one of his counselors.

Just because he's a good podcast host, and he is, doesn't mean he's good with working with students. I'd work with a different team member.

He also worked with KIPP for a long time so has a good understanding of the high-needs student too.

I like her too. But I wouldn’t pay her by the hour. I put her on 2x speed. But love ya, Susan!

I have a feeling they’re all talking about this thread on their “text chain”

So I feel like I should chime in. I have had a few conversations with Mark over the last year and have found him very helpful.

The podcast is great. It does a great job in educating about the how the admission process actually works (versus a lot of the nonsense that can be found on this board) and the many of the interviews are terrific. He has a reach that includes admissions officers from a great variety of institutions from Dartmouth to Barnard to U of Illinois to Rhodes College to MIT... and it's all FREE. The team does a great service to parents and students and genuinely seem to care about the work they do and who they do it for.

I have listened to most episodes for at least the first segment or two, but dont always listen to the whole episode. Its depends on the topic/interviews.

I bet he’s good. I don’t believe he’s looking for podcast material from clients. Please.

I am a parent who got really invested in college advising because we couldn't afford a counselor. This podcast has been so helpful. I have coached both my kids and a few friends to several T15 admits and am transitioning as a career. Also signed up to coach for ScholarMatch. Very helpful info. Grts a little chatty for me, but I like the down to earth style that is a part of that.
